I was just going off what other sold for here. and what ebay sold them for. and of course that $1200 was just a starting point i didnt think i would get that for it and iam not trying to I just put a value on it for trade really.

It doesn't matter if whether or not you got the item for free or paid 200% of it's true value. Whatever price you pay for something is totally irrelevant to your selling price. In fact it's no one's business what you paid for it but if you want to tell the buyer then that's your business. Do we know what a store paid for an item that we bought from them? No one would expect to over pay for something just because you over paid when you bought it. So why should they expect to pay less just because you got a good deal when you bought it? You're free to ask whatever price you want. It's called "free enterprise".

And another thing. maybe its just me but if you asked me some questions about a bass you can buy real cheap and wanted to sell it for a profit I would go out of my way to help you do that. I would be real happy for you that yu can buy something cheap and make a profit. I might even buy it to help you out. but i guess I dont think like other people think. like i said it was not my intention to sell it this fast.

Just my two cents as I us sold similar basses on here. The early 80's basses seem to go for 750-1000 bucks. That's what I was always able to get depending on condition. The higher priced early 80's basses usually have a rare finish or are one of the vintage RI basses.

Also, I'm with others one this...nothing wrong with making a profit. However, promoting the deal you got in a thread and then charging $450 more than what you paid isn't really passing on the deal.

IMO, the price you paid at GC was fairly accurate, but either way, GLWTS. It's a cool bass.

It's a community thing. Lots of people post about great deals they got and then pass it on for the same great deal. No one has to do it but it's generally how things go. When someone posts a great deal and then ups the price by 400 bucks, it's a little off putting for a lot of people. There's nothing wrong with turning a profit because you bought it for less than they generally go for, but a lot of potential buyers know what you paid and don't wanna put extra money in your pocket for that reason. There's a good chance you can get your 1200 cuz lots of buyers only ever look at the classifieds but you also lost a lot of potential buyers. Your best bet now is eBay or Craigslist.

Still don't make sense to me but it is what it is. if i wanted a bass someone paid $800 for and they will make a couple hundred I have no problem buying it. I guess i dont have a ego like some do. iam happy to let someone make a profit . after all i would pay the same for it if i wanted it from you or someone else.

Weren't there a few folks saying "Get it and I'll buy it from you for more!!!!" in your other thread? Well, their chance has come rather quickly.

Have you looked at ebay's completed listings on these? That's a pretty good indication of what things actually sell for, since, well, it's what they actually sold for.

YES thats what i said. they said I can get a profit if i sell it and some would even buy it. I got the price by looking on this forum and ebay. they seem to go for $1000 to $1500 so i started in the middle. but I started some crap with this i guess. Iam just a bass player wanting to get a maple neck bass out of this. in fact i see one on the site now i like for a grand that I might get if I sell this one. go figure.

It's no big deal, I think you just weren't a smooth salesman about this and were too direct is all, and that's not a bad thing really. You will get a profit out of it in time, maybe $100, maybe $400, depending on your approach and patience. It's just that the people who gave you advice (including me) on this think they're "in on the deal", and somehow entitled to getting a deal as well (not including me, cool bass, but I don't need it!), and they're a bit ticked. Or just get a maple neck and sell this neck as a "vintage part". Don;t stress the witch hunt, it happens here all the time. I maintain that you have a lot of great options with this instrument to either get something cool or make a buck or two.

I have zero issues with someone selling a bass for what it's actually worth even if they got a killer deal. That said you asked how much it's worth and the answer is....less than what you are asking. Honestly you paid about market value for this bass from guitar center. The absolute tops that an 83/84 goes for is around $1000 shipped. Take out the shipping (let's say $70) and paypal fees ($29) and you are at $900. That is only $50 more than what you paid for it. Honestly not worth the hassle and you are more likely to sell it for $900 shipped than $1000. Take it back to GC and get a refund and find a used 1957 Precision. Here is one for $1000 so not a whole lot more than what you paid.
