I paid $650 each for the last two 82 MIA Precisions I bought. I typically see basses from that era selling between $650 and $1,000.

I do find it funny that in his "I found an 83 Precision" thread everyone was gushing about how $750 was a killer deal and they sell for $1300 all the time but in this thread they can be found for $800 all day and night.

That aside...the lower side is correct...they routinely sell for $800-$1000 max.

I have zero issues with someone selling a bass for what it's actually worth even if they got a killer deal. That said you asked how much it's worth and the answer is....less than what you are asking. Honestly you paid about market value for this bass from guitar center. The absolute tops that an 83/84 goes for is around $1000 shipped. Take out the shipping (let's say $70) and paypal fees ($29) and you are at $900. That is only $50 more than what you paid for it. Honestly not worth the hassle and you are more likely to sell it for $900 shipped than $1000. Take it back to GC and get a refund and find a used 1957 Precision. Here is one for $1000 so not a whole lot more than what you paid.

Do you? I saw two white ones that sold for around your asking price but all the other ones look to have sold for well under $1000. One in sunburst sold for $750 plus shipping same as what you paid. It looks like the white ones are popular but that's about it. And the maple necks seem to bring more than the rosewood versions. There was one in a store local to me that sat for almost 2 years for $900. The neck was gorgeous and had a ton of flame on it.

Dude...you started this thread and asked what you should ask for it. If you had it in your head to ask a certain amount and not listen to anyone else then why bother starting this thread? None of the sales you listed from this site show what the bass "actually" sold for. I can say that on average 90% of my sales here sell for less than I listed it for. Most of those basses have maple necks, lots of the reverb ones are Elite models not the standard. You picked out the two white models I said sold for higher but left out the 4-5 other ones that sold for under $1000. If you have 2-3 months to invest you may find the right buyer but IMO from seeing these things listed constantly here,on eBay and locally they are $800-$1000 basses. Can they sell higher? Sure...especially if you have something that someone really wants (like a white with maple neck apparently) but be prepared to wait awhile until you find that buyer. I wish you luck...I have no problems with flipping it quick for higher and making some money. I just think that at the end of the day when you take out fees you will likely not get more than what you paid so returning it is the quickest and easiest method. FYI, Ebay almost always yields the highest sale price. This has been what I have found out from years of selling gear. You will be hit with a major fee though. So if it sold for $1100 be prepared for $110 of that to go to eBay. So $990 minus your shipping and paypal fees and you are back down to $900 again.

why don't you keep it just a little longer? Fretboard material is really inconsequential, and is imo a matter of getting used to it... Unless you're thinking of returning it for a hassle-free end to this drama (with bits of comedy and tragedy!), and if everything else checks out, I suggest you hang on to it... Looks like a nice p bass!
