What should I get?

Hey I am browsing the web looking for a new bass... for about a month now Maybe you can help me decide on what I should get.

My budget is about 500~. I slightly prefer 5 strings over 4 strings, but doesn't matter alot. I also prefer thin necks and I mainly play metal music.

Basses I've caught my eye on:

- ESP F5E
- Ibanez SRX 595
- Ibanez BTB 405 QM

Any tips or suggestions?

If by "thin necks" you mean ones with a small width I would not look at a BTB...Taken directly from Ibanez's site:

"The BTB takes the traditional formula of massive body and substantial neck and then adds an even longer 35" scale neck."

Did you look at their site?

I would suggest going to every music store in your area and trying out every bass they have that's $500 or less.

If you add a little more,you can custumize a Carvin. The B4 has a VERY NICE playable neck.So do The neck-through series they have. Check out the site...They may be able to build just what you are looking for.

You can get something like that for around $500!?

That thing is a work of art!

You can't quite get a new B4 for that, but not too much more. With no options, it's $619 plus $70 for the mandatory hard shell case. But you could definately get a used one for 5, or less. Check out Ebay, TB Classifieds, Craigslist, etc.

Yeah, what he said. Carvins don't hold value that well, so you should be able to get something around $500 I'd say.

Good luck in your search though. Try to play them first at a store, see what you like before buying via the internet.
