Sizes like 3/4, 7/8, and 4/4 are marketing and a very general guide at best. There are no rules.

To elaborate, I believe these are terms introduced by mass producers and in some cases adopted by modern players or craftsmen, but again, no rules.

I will say I am under 5’7” but I have gotten so used to my big bass. I am also a bigger guy so it balances against my body well.

So wider upper bouts means you have to reach farther to get to the strings with you pizzing hand.
It also moves the fingerboard away from your "stopping" hand. Closer usually means easier. Easier means
less stress and chance of RSI's over time, use and aging. A longer body may also present problems
with reach for shorter people.
