What small - mid size car is friendly to transporting gear?

I own a Nissan Versa sedan. Now, I don't really gig out anymore, so I can verify what cabinets fit in it, but I can say it is deceptively roomy. I drove from Phoenix to Colorado, wife and kids in tow. We had all our stuff in the trunk for a 10 day stay, plus a pack and play and generous amounts of baby accoutrements, stroller, cooler, etc. Amazing what we packed in that pig. Plus we got 36 miles a gallon.

I have an 05 Hyundai accent hatchback....and I can fit my ampeg 8x10 cab, head, 2 basses and pedalboard with all cables in it. it's a tight fit, but does the trick. I will admit in about 10 years from now I really wont want to be loading that fridge up in a hatchback.

When I did gig, I had an '01 Accent hatchback. I was using a head, SWR 2x10, a Renkus Heinz 18" cabinet, Michael Kelly ABG, Stingray 5, and a 12 pack. No problem.

Chevrolet HHR. Sort of a "Woody like mini-mini van/wagon" . Fold down seats and wagon style hatch on the back. A vintage sort of vibe that is not all that costly ang gets decent gas milage.

Mazdas are good, a Protege5 is quite good and you can find them used for a decent price. If you're going new, a Mazda 2 or 3 are both quite good, good space, sporty without being a gas guzzler (though its always a trade-off) and the "2" is small enough to get into those tricky city parallel parking spaces.

Besides that, I've always had a soft spot for the Subaru Impreza/Saab 9-2X (same car). Though that's not as good on the gas mileage.

I've got a 2003 Toyota Echo, bought used, and they've got a loads of space, in the trunk or the backseat. I can transport a 2x12 no problem so I think a 4x10 will fit fine. It's not the most fun car to drive, but its comfortable and gets around 35 m/gal. highway.

I have a Honda Fit & its awesome for bringing gear. It has magic seats that fold up so you have floor to roof room. 35 MPGs average. I brought myself, 2 people & all my gear to a gig, people were amazed.

I've been using a 93 honda civic hatchback. I can fit my 15 cab, either my 4 space rack or shuttle 6, monitor, mic stand, gig bag, wireless, and still have room in the back. my 2 basses fit between the front and back seats.
I have been toying with the idea of getting an HHR.

I'd say a hatchback would be your best bet.

That being said, I can easily get an Ampeg 610 into the back seat of my 4-door Sunfire.

For me, it's a Subaru Outback wagon. I bring my rig and most of the PA along with some led lights and a cart.

Goes everywhere, runs forever, holds a huge amount of gear. Not a cool ride by any means, but a darn useful one.
