what strings come on an ibanez mikro?

Is it a manual specific to your model or does it have general information about all models?

Looking at the winding they do not look like the way Elixir strings taper off.

It is a general manual, the same manual came with my SR models, but those basses came with hang tags stating they were strung with D'addario XLs even though the manual said Elixir strings.

So, I have two Talmans bought in the last 3 months, no hang tags that state D'addarios. Manuals state Elixir strings. I'm just using logic here. I could be wrong.

Ibanez brand strings are bare as well with no silk.

You're the string guy, so I'm sure you will get to the bottom of it.

I'm sticking with Elixirs until proven wrong.

i have a jaguar ss right next to my mikro strung with d'addario XLs, and the d'addarios are rougher to the touch and have no silk.

They are NOT D'Addario or Elixir.

They are a no name import brand.

You can usually see the Elixir coating, where it starts and where it ends... Like in the attached image. The coating isn't on the uneven winding, it starts about 1" after the ball end. And you can also see it between the windings of the string as it is like a shrink-wrap tube around the string...

If this is the case then Ibanez is poorly representing Elixir brand strings.

I honestly don't care, they sound and feel good, even if they are a no name import brand.

I retract my statement, I've been proven wrong.

is it possible that elixer makes strings with silk for manufacturers to buy?

I am not trying to prove anyone anything... Just clarifying information. I agree the info packet shouldn't have information not specific to the instrument they are included with. I am sure somewhere in there it will state information may not be specific to your specific model etc. To my understanding (and I am not an Ibanez dealer) only certain models ship with Elixir for bass, and they usually have a higher price tag.

Yes manufacturers do make "OEM" strings for companies but they usually nothing like the product they brand. I am not aware of Elixir being a string manufacturer more than just applying their coating after the strings are produced.

I do know of some string manufacturers that make OEM strings here in the USA and export them to China, Korea, and Europe... They very well could be "Manufactured" by them but they are made to a different spec than they make their branded strings to keep costs down etc... They could also be made overseas unfortunately we do not know.

Ibanez surely buys enough strings that they can have them custom made for them by anyone - including Elixir. The Ibanez string page says that the strings are coated, that leads me to think that they are Elixirs.

The stings on my new miKro 5 have black silks that are close to the tuners. My miKro 4 has no silks but they may not be the stock strings.

I do see replacement strings for the 4 on the Ibanez page, but not for the 5er. Hmm.

I don't see any string information on the Talman basses on Ibanez website?

I tried downloading the PDF manual but no luck finding it...

not talman-specific, but there are mikro bass specific strings listed on this page as well as non-mikro 4, 5 and 6 string sets.

i don't see how to order them, though, so maybe through an ibanez retailer.

I'm not saying you're calling me a liar but this came straight out of the box on Tuesday, my bass was manufactured on 10/28/15. They have black silks. This is the manual and it has my bass' serial number on it...View attachment 744291

So until proven otherwise, I say they are Elixir strings...

I believe this is the link to the manual posted:

Only on the back cover does it mention Elixir. Everything else is general info and does not state anything about string brand on the string page, only installation and gauge information. Only now is the gauge information correct for Elixir as they just changed their sets to .045 .065 .085 .105 .130 in the middle of 2015 (this is a 2014 catalog though) so the gauges listed were not accurate if an instrument was equipped with an Elixir instrument (unless Ibanez had custom sets made but I believe they were equipped with the 14202 set which used to be .045 .065 .080 .100 .130.

COOL! First I have seen those! I'll ask around about them. I wasn't aware of Ibanez selling their own branded strings... I have never seen those strings before.

Slapinfunk: I wasn't trying to sound like a smart @$$. So please don't take it any way other than I was using my logic. I am more than open to be proven wrong. I'm not an expert on anything except how to play Joy Division bass lines!

I know my SRs came with D'addarios as all three had D'addario hang tags stating your bass is strung with D'addarios and the strings had the familiar colored ball ends. Plus I know D'addarios as all but one of my basses are strung with them.

The Talmans stated nothing and came with no identifier for string brand. They have black silks, I just figured they were Elixirs per the manual's prominent display and description of nanoweb technology. As I stated earlier I don't care either way as they are really good strings. Much better than the Fender strings I immediately replace on all Fender purchases.

If they were Elixirs, I wouldn't replace them with Elixirs due to the price.

thanks :) it would be great if you could sell them.

btw, a few months ago you and i were talking about strings for a shorter scale bass - a 25.5" scale model. you said someone - was it labella? - was talking about making such strings. any word on that?

It's pretty easy to be misled that the strings are Elixirs to the untrained player.

Yes I remember you! Yes it is still in process.

Has nothing to do with a player at all here. They just were not clear in the manual if it was specific to the instrument.

Even more misleading is both manuals are 2015 with a NOV14 code,

Maybe I should have said oblivious purchaser of Ibanez basses assuming strings are Elixirs due to poor representation on manual. Which is what I am. Of course it has nothing to do with the player, I chose my words poorly, and as soon as I posted that I knew it would be misunderstood.

The booklet or that statement doesn't state "Your instrument is equipped" so it should be considered an advertisement or for informational purposes.
Yup, and that's why I'm the oblivious purchaser of Ibanez basses assuming something because it's printed on the manual. I've read every single English word in the manual. No disclaimers or information regarding anything about what the bass is equipped with string wise. So yes, I'm obviously misled by the Elixir statement or advertisement.

As far as I'm concerned they can be any flipping string in the world, they sound good. I just ignorantly assumed something. As soon as the strings die I'll enthusiastically replace them with D'addarios.
