What strings do you use on your precision bass?

View attachment 1176982 When i bought my used AVRI 57 Precision,it had RW strings on it that sounded good,but i really wanted to see what some flatwounds would sound like with the maple fretboard.
I put a very light set of Chromes on,and think it sounds brilliant! After a year of light playing,the Chromes are still pretty bright,but i find i can really control that with varying the volume and tone controls. Am looking forward to hearing them as they continue to break in.
If i had a '63 like Mantis', i would probably want to try ghs pressurewounds for a bit more grunt.

Thanks! I got it used,but almost blemish free. I think someone swapped out the reverse tuners,but i don't mind. I swapped the chrome barrel knobs for black ones,which i think look better. It has a fabulous feeling neck,really like the small vintage frets! And it's a great sounding bass as well.

I recently switched from DR High Beams to Fat Beams on my Warwick Thumb and I loved them so much that I've bought a few more sets to throw on the various p basses I've bought and sold lately. Finally found and settled on a Squier Matt Freeman this past Tuesday and it's gonna get Fat Beams put on today.
DR High Beams are great and I've rocked them for 10 years. Very piano like and even across the tonal spectrum while maybe accenting the highs a bit.
DR Fat Beams are exactly like their name implys, FAT. Much more presence in the mid range frequencys then the High Beams and without the accented highs of the High Beams. This comparison was made on my Thumb bass but I'm sure it would be similar on a p bass or any other bass.
I like Ernie Ball strings too.
Stainless rounds+p bass=my favorite tone for my needs.

I am using Dunlop SuperBright Nickels on both Precisions and I am really loving them. Great strings for me. The first nickels I have really liked. The only other rounds I really like on a Precision are DR Hi Beams. I also use flats on occasion. Either LaBella Deep Talking Flats or TI Jazz Flats. Right now the LaBella's are my favourite flat but that can change. At the end of the day I am really a rounds type of player.

• GHS Pressure Wounds (my #2 choice)
• Fender Flatwounds
• Thomastik Infeld Jazz Flats
