Fender MIA Jazz four and five strings: Fender Super Bass (old version). Wish they'd stayed with this formulation, which sounds and feels great, and lasts an incredibly long time. My favorite rounds other than the DR's below.
Fender MIA Precision: DR Extra Life (Peacock Blue). Bought these strings years ago on closeout for about $7, but didn't have the nerve to go blue. After reading Ed Friedland's positive review, I had to try them. He's right. Warm, thick, clear, growly -- all positive adjectives apply. My P feels and sounds better than ever, and the blue looks cool on the classic black/black/maple. I think I need some Red Devils for my Chrome Red/maple Jazz.
G&L SB-2: DR Fat Beams. Love these too. Tone wise, not that far from the Extra Life, but a little more zing, and probably a slight relative mid scoop, but not sure about that. They aren't quite as stiff as the Extra Life.
G&L JB: D'Addario Chromes. I loved these on a fretless P, but I'm not sure on the J for some reason. They're new, and I think I'll like them more after breaking them in. Plus, I need to try them with the band before knowing whether they're keepers on this bass. Bet they'd rock on the SB-2, and I know they'd rock on the P, so they won't go to waste.
