I can imagine what a big magnet u need AND how much wire u need...are u sure single coil is the way to go? maybe split? (like in 3 pieces)

Multiple smaller coils will sound better... too long a coil can lose both top and bottom.

If you go that route, make it an even number, like four. Then every other coil can be opposite phase/opposite magnet polarity, for hum cancelation, while still sounding like a single coil.

Think of a big P bass. :D

This weekend I'm going to finish all the fine sanding, and then I'm going to start on the electronics. Not too much to show in the way of pics for now, let me bump this thread when I have some noteable progress to show. I'm doing 2 pickups btw. Thanks for the advice guys!

Hi Dusty G, it's good to see a full photo of it, it's a mad instrument and i like it. Here's a mad tuning idea:

7 pairs of identical strings, for example B B E E A A D D G G C C F F, and then detune strings 1 3 5 7 9 11 13 by a quarter tone to make a 24 tone equal temperament (24TET) guitar. You could play Arabic and other exotic scales. All normal notes are available on strings 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 and quarter-flat notes are right next to the normal notes (on the string closer to the player).

24TET scales are archived here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

:D
