What the heck? 14 strings

Call me crazy, but why not set it up like a touch guitar with 5, 6, or 7 bass strings and 9, 8, or 7 melody strings or like the 12-string grand stick with an added bass and added treble string? That could be really cool. Or 4 bass strings - B, E, A, D, with 10 guitar strings (use a 12-string guitar tuning for the top 10 minus the high E and it's octave). Just throwing some suggestions out there.

Sorry fellas, I've been building my brother a guitar for Christmas, so I haven't been working on the bass for the past week. I'll be back to work on the bass soon, but Christmas is a deadline I must meet! Here's some pics of my brother's Christmas guitar

I'll post progress on the bass shortly, just taking a brief hiatus!

Nothing wrong with guitars. We all play bass guitars after all. I played 6 string guitar before I played bass. it's a good instrument for song writing and learning chords on guitar directly translates to bass fingerings. Helps you "see" arpeggios and stuff. I also get to play all my own guitar parts on my recordings... ;) I don't have to worry about some guitarist over playing.
