What the heck is going on with Ibanez?

They make some sweeeet basses...all I'm playing at the moment. My main giggers are an SRX3EX w/ Bartolini preamp and a 90's SR800 with Bart P/J and 2-band Bart preamp. You can't beat those SR necks IMO, they are just tooo comfy lol
I just sent a Squier back because it had nasty fret work and an electronic crackle indicative of a poor connection somewhere. All fixable...but I've got too many basses to be sinking time and money into a cheap J.
I respectfully disagree, my Ray35 is in Immaculate condition. Much to my surprise everything was perfect, I suppose hence why I bought it off the floor at Mayberry Music, haha.
I would agree on the Ray35. Ive picked up three different ones, and each was gorgeously finished with good attention to detail. Im not a Ray kinda guy, but was very impressed with the quality.
That doesn't look right; there seems to be some gunk residue from polishing and all, but that white "collar" looks like the input was forced in or replaced. As you can imagine they paint the bodies prior to hardware mounting, so that area should be painted as well. The only situations that would result in that would be either a too thick coat of lacquer that would require the input jack being forced in, or the input was faulty and was replaced by an idiot.
Anyway, congratz for the Ibby
Although my heart goes to the 50X models (and I do own a 705 as well - only mine is grey).
On a different note, I'm getting fed up with all these Fender owners who feel (for some strange reasons) that is ok to bash Ibanez instruments anytime they find an "opportunity" - NOBODY CARES, DUDES. It's not like someone's forcing you to play Ibbys, geez...

Indeed, all Ibby owners should step aside and let the owners of whatever other brand speak 'cause they're so in the know when it comes to Ibanez basses
Personally, as long as it plays nice & everything works properly, that wouldn't even blip my radar. Picky so and so, aren't you?? LOL!!
That´s a good point, but nevertheless what happens here is not that the jack input is dirty, that pinkish area you see in the picture is actually NOT painted. Looks like the color spray never got there...
Anyway nothing wrong with the rest of the bass, it is just that everything is in the details.

Email Ibanez about it, send them the picture with the defect on it, who knows u might get some freebies like a t-shirt or something like that.
Having heard of some mates who have used Soundgear basses along many years, I decided to trade my current basses for a couple of SR´s. Very excited I got a new SR705 and a used (in very good condition) SR700. The 705 already arrived.
Very nice bass, excellent ergonomics, and quite light for being a 5 string.
Excellent fit and finish...until I arrived to the cable input...
There´s a lot of gunk, left from the polishing process, so a thorough cleaning of the cavity is worth the time. Ibanez basses are a delight to play.
P.D. These 2 and the incoming SR700 will be held on for a long time, I hope.
I got the same bass back in March; a 2012 SR705. I absolutely love everything about it, and great QC, but I had the same problem with some left over stuff in the input cavity just like yours. I spent maybe 15 minutes max, and got it all cleaned out ..... no biggie - it came right off.

LOL. No biggie since it was able to be cleaned up. I might put some clear fingernail polish on the area to be sure it is sealed. But that's it. Jeezzz-- I bet some of the OMIGOD-THAT"S-TERRIBLE-SEND-IT-BACK folks here have themselves got gumpier holes (snicker) to deal with than your new bass! Enjoy that bass!
The majority of the responses here are pure facepalm. It's rubbing compound, it wipes off. To me, it's much like the plastic that protects the pickguard/control covers, and tuning keys (like my Fender), that comes on brand new basses; we gladly peel that annoying crap away because it's a brand new bass. These are signs of it being "factory fresh". It's only "new" once. Enjoy that!
Yes and no.
There's indeed some gunk that can be wiped off. BUT if you look closely the top part of the input has a red tint, while at the bottom the wood is white - that is probably because whoever mounted the input forced it to rub against the coat of laquer and it chipped the paint. That is not normal. Minor, but still an issue.
