What to buy?

Hi all

Many thanks for all of your competent advice. The three basses mentioned were indeed used, within her price range and for sale in our vicinity. She saved up for a bass herself and I refrained from chipping in, to allow her to get total "ownership" of her new hobby.

I had planned a small roadtrip for her to see all three basses but we never got further than to the first place, where she unashamed fell head over heels in love with the Cort GB99. No way to haggle with the previous owner as it was absolutely clear that she really wanted it :smug:

It seems to be in perfect condition and the price we paid was fair.

The seller talked me into buying a smal practice combo (which I paid for :hmm:). We got it for practically nothing an I am sure that it "kinda sucks". It will have to do for now, however...

Here is a pic of the setup

Hello again

I tried to post a lenghty reply last night, but somehow it did not seem to make it through?

Anyways the basses mentioned were indeed used, in our vicinity and within our price range. My daughter has saved up for a bass and I intented to refrain from "chipping in", in order to allow her "ownership" of her new hobby.

I had planned a small roadtrip where we could check out the three different models.

Our first stop was the Cort GB99 and my daughter fell unashamed, head over heels in love with it on the spot. (made haggling with the seller a little difficult) The price was fair - so no harm done.

He gave me an "offer I could not refuse" on a practice amp (which I paid for - so much for "the pay for it yourself if you really want it - policy)

I am sure that the amp kinda sux but the bass seemed to be in perfect condition.

I have a picture of the setup but I will post this later as it may have been the reason why I was not allowed to post earlier.

Many thanks for all your competent advice

I can't be the only one here who completely loves how that looks?!

Congratulations to you and your daughter for choosing the right instrument ;)

You may want to recommend this website to her, it's an amazing resource, but be warned, she might find herself struck with G.A.S! (Gear/Guitar Aquisition Syndrome)

As a teen myself I can tell you now that the 'pay for it yourself' approach will make her appreciate what she has SO much more.

I wish her years of happy playing and you years of trying to get her to turn down! :p :bassist:

+1 This is the best way; you wouldn't want somebody else to pick your first bass would you?

I would suggest that if she likes the Ibanez - maybe splurge for an SR300 instead - much better sound.

She got the Cort so you're a little too late lol. Anyway Joe I enjoyed reading your profile a few, years back, wish I still had the issue but I remember looking up your music and I dug the groove. It had a punk feel right?

To the Dad- what kind of bass combo is that?

Now the exciting times start. This is what happened to me when I let my 13 year old daughter buy her 1st bass.

5 years of lessons, then 4 years of university tuition for Jazz studies.
A Double bass, then a Dingwall Super J for a graduation present.

I wouldn't change it for the world.
Congratulations
