What to do with an unused hole...

The empty hole doesn't bother me in any way, just seems like a great opportunity to enhance the features of the bass. Right now I'm torn between adding a stereo output or a series/parallel switch, both of which I have on other instruments and enjoy greatly.

I have a utility pedal with a invert phase switch. I suppose in those rare occasions where you have some keys or other instrument in the same sonic space and for some reason they are cancelling out with you, a flip of phase can sometimes reinforce both when playing together.

Ok I think I understand now. We are inverting phase of the entire signal, not moving pickups out of phase.

I have wired pickups out of phase by accident and was wondering "who the heck wants a switch for THAT?"

Recently acquired a Fender Marcus Miller JB that having the preamp and pups swapped out with Sadowsky equipment leaves an empty hole in the pick guard where the active/passive toggle switch once was. My first thought was to install some stacked pups and a coil splitter but it seems that there isn't much to gain from splitting stacked jazz pups though I haven't done extensive research on the matter. Maybe series/parallel? Would greatly appreciate some creative suggestions

Haha I bought a Jazz Bass Special new in 1986, then switched out the (IMO) crummy sounding stock pups for EMGs with no switch. I've had that unused switch hole on the bass ever since. It's gloss black, no pick guard, so it doesn't stand out. Honestly I doubt if anybody's even noticed. I have no idea what I did with the original pups and pots and nobs and switch, and now (apparently) it would probably be worth something if I had all that. Oh well, I'm keeping it anyway. It's my only fretless BG.

I assumed it was total signal phase. Could be one pickup phase like on a Strat

If that is true then I am back to wondering why, unless it is helpful when using certain effects?

A Jazz or PJ with a series/parallel switch is a great option. I had done it via a push/pull on the tone pot but if you want it as a separate switch, do that. Great full thunderous tone when you need it.
