I've been very happy with the Oliv G & D and Innovation HB E & A for awhile now. My Olivs bit the dust so in a weak moment I decided to get a set of Garbos out of the used section. I didn't realize that the G is literally unbowable:hmm: .I don't think the Velvets are for me anymore.

I've been noticing I sound pretty much like me on any strings, but I love the power of the G & D gut. Now I can't decide on a Gamut Lyon G & D to replace the Olivs or the much cheaper new Evah Pirrazi G & D, or possibly an Oliv G and Evah Pirazzi D. I'll probably stick with the Innovation E & A as they still sound good.

Any thoughts?

I'm using the Innovation HB on the E & A. They sound really good on the Solano, and bow really well for a hybrid. I hope the new strings match well....Olivs are great but expensive and just don't seem to last as long for me before the windings fall apart. Hard to ignore that sound though!

The Klotz is doing well; no problems since the weather crack a few years ago. While I was in the middle of moving it didn't get played much, so it is taking awhile to get it woke back up. It is really nice to have a dedicated music room again.

How's your Solano doing since the modifications?

Are you using a combination of innovation strings?
140 H
140 B

I can't find HB specific ones:

I ask because these are one of the 4 strings that are arousing my interest at the moment. I can't decide whether to explore the 140H or the 140B (the B being the set innovation advise for mainly arco based playing) and I had thought of using the H on the E and the B for the rest of the strings

Hmm, looking at the Quinn Violins site where I bought them, it appears it would be the H I have. For some reason I thought they were called HB for hybrid.

They feel nice and have a very balanced arco sound that does well in a section, although I've used them mostly in a jazz setting. They are a good match for the Olivs.

That is a good question...I loved the 180's for all around. I did start doing less orchestral (all jazz), and I always liked the pizz of the Oliv G a little better. I suppose it is just the feeling that something better is out there:smug:
