My tube baby is the Mesa 400 that I bought in '91. It's the one that has stood shining compared to many other I've owned, tried, or borrowed.
I am eagerly waiting for Mesa to release their new tubers.

love my SVT-3 Pro!!! I know it's not full tube but 5 pre tubes more than make up the difference. Nice thing about MOSFET is it only cost about 25cents a watt on eBay and duplicate the sound exact when running a wall of cabs (thank you Peavey CS series). What I like most about my SVT is it allows me tho have a nice meaty growly tone that still punches through. Not normally easy to get away with in a progressive metal band!!!! Technical bass playing and a solid rock bass tone are rarely used in the same sentence!!! Thank you Mr. Ernie Ball!!! P.S. that is not an Ampeg cab by choice. The Peavey gives me a nice mid growl and you can pick them up all day long for 200 bucks!

1959 Dynaco MkIII monoblock power amp with a Yamaha PB-1 pre-amp or TC Electronic 450H driving the MkIII power-amp into either a SVT-810 or Hydrive HX410. On occasion augmented by a Crown XLS-2500 SS amp bridged for 2500W with internal DSP crossover at 100 Hz into a JBL M-PRO M225S dual 15" sub. AWESOME old-school tube tone with ABSOLUTELY KILLER low-end. Got bass?

What was hard to understand about my post???? Should I draw little pictures for the bigger words?? My point was that I like the SVT 3 pro for my specific needs because it's quite a bit tighter than a full tube Amp which is probably why you don't see that many full tube amps in prog metal!!!

Do hybrids count if sô Eden dc210xlt for bass and a Marshall 8040 valve state for guitfiddle.

Both use 12ax7 tubes.

While we're on the subject, does anyone have an opinion on the AShdown 300 watt tube head? Just curious.

I bought one a couple of months ago for AU$2000. I haven't had extensive experience with it, but I haven't been wowed so far. I liked it a lot more than the SVTCL and VR they had in the shop. I had issues with getting enough clean volume out of it (I'm not talking squeaky clean, I know what a tube amp is, I mean just not-a-pile-of-molten-slag), *but* we've also started putting my bass in fold and turning my rig (fearful 15/6/1 and fearful sub) into my fold (but not foh), so I may have judged it unfairly.

I didn't notice a huge improvement over my streamliner, but my bandmates, especially the guitarist, had good things to say about it. Recently swapped in some nos tubes and hoping to be wowed; my thread on it shouldn't be too hard to find, if you're interested.

Will somebody please tell me why I just spent so much money replacing 5 tubes in my Non tube SVT 3???? As I said in my original post!! I know it's tube pre and MOSFET power!!!! I get it! I only said it works great for the style I play! In MY experience it's a touch tighter for what I personally prefer to sound like! I mean know offense to all of you real bass players that play all tube pre/power amps!!! Maybe on my forth album I'll graduate to the level you guys are at??? If I said that I simply prefer a P bass for myself over a Jazz I'm sure somebody would tell me I'm wrong! Notice the phrase "for my own personal needs"???

I don't think anyone is saying ur 'wrong' for liking yr amp. Just that it's a tube PRE AMP & not a tube amp - as in power amp. :thumbup:

FYI. I did take it as a big compliment when I sat down with Doug Wimbish yesterday and talked tone with him yesterday when my band opened for Living Colour. He seems to think that me and a "non tube" SVT 3 and I sound really good together?? Maybe he was just being nice?
Just thought I'd share. Sorry. Didn't get a pic of Doug but here's one of my singer with Vernon & Corey. Great gig! And great guys!!!
