What tube amp do you play?

LOL! Yeah Fred, I've done that too with my crappy work vehicles at car show gigs. Never fails to get a laugh!

Ha. We did that once. My mate had a real beat up car with one of the front 'bucket' seats missing & lotsa dings in the body. We drove in to an area at the docks & parked. Got outta the car, went & got food. Came back, ppl were pointing & laughing. I didn't know why.
Turns out we'd parked in a line of classic cars on display for a special cruise ship that was just now arriving. :o:D
That was the time I 1st heard the saying 'it's had more hits than The Beatles'
We DID finally realize, but by then it was too late & we just stayed there & finished our food & watched the 'show' :rolleyes::)

Brother, I'm sure your SVT 3 sounds great and it's quite obvious you're happy with it. My post was definitely not meant to imply it didn't sound good. My post was merely a response to this quote of yours.

"love my SVT-3 Pro!!! I know it's not full tube but 5 pre tubes more than make up the difference. Nice thing about MOSFET is it only cost about 25cents a watt on eBay and duplicate the sound exact when running a wall of cabs"



All I'm saying is that it absolutely does not duplicate the sound exactly ( Am I wrong in assuming YOU were comparing it to a full tube amp, such as an SVT?)

I guess maybe I misunderstood that quote up there. I can't speak for anyone else, but as for me, I wasn't dissin' your amp or trying to make you feel this way brother. There are a lot of nice bass amps in this world and there are plenty of people that prefer even full SS amps over tube amps and hybrids. There is room for all of them.

My apologies if I offended you.

All I said was your amp is not a tube amp, which means it has both a tube preamp and a tube power amp. :rollno:

Sorry, Skull, Floyd is Dead Balls On. I have a 3-Pro and a Blue Line, and they don't sound nothin' alike. I love my 3-Pro for it's versatility and lack of weight, but it doesn't have the balls, headroom, growl, etc. that my SVT has. And this thread is about TUBE amps, not Tube Preamps or Hybrids. I'm glad you like your 3-Pro and that the sound you get fits your taste and needs... Enjoy it... Take care,

my SVT7 pro is so sick. It's all tube. Well kind of. Well no, I guess it isn't. But it's close. And people tell me how good it sounds so there. And some of them are from real bands too. You guys are snobs. I hate you all. I'm now going to go drink myself to death. Tubes schmoobes. I rock. With my non all tube, tube amp. Wait, what was this thread about?? Oh yeah, all tube bass amps......
I have a hybrid that sounds great to me too (7 pro). I like it. I don't have an all tube amp but have and am in the market for one again. All of your tube amps are giving me gas..... that's all I needed

Blue line for the last time I will explain it again!!!!!! I said in my original post that because my amp has ss power it's easier and cheaper to duplicate MY sound thru MY head thru a wall of cabs because ss power amps will replicate MY SOUND without losing my original sound!!!! Never said it sounded like an all tube head!!!! My head has tubes in it (more pre tubes where it counts)!!! They call it a pro series and a hybrid for a reason!!! Not a lobrid!!!! I've seen a few heads on here that have 1 maybe 2 pre tubes that probably don't even warm up!!! True tone comes from your fingers but I sure love my tube pre amp for amplifying all the hard work that I put my fingers thru! FYI, according to all the snobs on here they shouldn't be on here either!!! Unless your talking about your tube power amp! The thread doesn't say "What tube HEAD do you play"?

Glad ur liking yr 3 pro SD.
Just my 2c but for me there are a few good hybrid amps-tube PRE/ SS power amp-that have just ONE tube in the pre amp that sound a lot more 'tubey' than some with more tubes in the pre.
I like the Ampeg 3 pro myself & realize this has 5 tubes, but the Mesa Walkabout has just one pre amp tube & one driver tube(for driving the mos-fet power stage - I think [I'm far from knowledgeable in these electrical matters, but know what sounds good to me]). The Ampeg 7 pro-one pre amp tube & sounds awesome.
I even think the GB Shuttle 6/9/6.2/9.2 amps, which have just one tube, sound damn good to me.
To each his own of course. :thumbup:

I started out-in the mid 70's with an Aus made VASE Bassman 100 with 4 6l6's. After that was stolen in the mid 80's I eventually got a silver face Fender Bassman 120, then another Aus made amp- Eminar PA150 with 6 x 6L6's.
Sold that (stupidly) for an Ampeg B2R, then 3 pro, then SVTII etc etc to now- a Fender Super Bassman. LOVE this new Fender!!!!!!!!:thumbup:

Floyd thanks. My first post was about absolutely nothing but how happy I was with my amp and how easy & inexpensive it is to expand on it since I have a guitar player that doesn't know how to live without his 3 peavey 5150 full stax on 11! And I meant nothing by the single tube remark my point was only that this shouldn't be such a snob festival!!! I get a good warm growly tone that works for me & comes from my amp that happens to have 5 great sounding tubes in it which means it is a tube amp so I thought maybe as per my original post that I could join in the fun on this thread without being treated like I don't belong. Maybe I'll just keep to myself since I'm not in the click! On the favorite mascot thread I listed Eddie from Iron Maiden and got told that he doesn't count because he doesn't advertise a product???? My ONLY beef with the 3PRO is the most common. It takes some serious coaxing to get a lot of volume out of it. I'm very familiar with the SVT tone control system, so I never committed any of the volume errors. It was just, when I tried a 3PRO, the tone was there, but I just did not see it getting as loud as I'd like. Conversely, I found the 7PRO to be perfect! :D
