What two opposite bands do you like and why?

I'd say The Smiths and Van Halen are pretty opposite. The Smiths guy does some great stuff with the drums, works well in a one guitar band. As for Mike Anthony, I wish they'd turn him up a bit, but at least he gets his own speaker on the early records.

I like classical because it's like some pure stream off somewhere putting everything in order.

I'm the type of guy who's always interested in opposites and how things complement or clash against each other. Being a guitar teacher's been helpful in expanding and sampling all kinds of genres but I still have my favourites. I like jazz because it's mellow without being boring. I like metal because of its positive aggression. I like classical because it's like some pure stream off somewhere putting everything in order. I like experimental tuning and playing creatively - its still refreshing even when it doesn't work. What do you guys like and why? Apart from the Seinfeld thing, what other stuff do we all play eh? I'm hoping you can add bands and genres and people and stuff to the list of choices I've started

I like Tesseract because they make beautiful heavy music, I like 12 foot ninja because they'll jump from metal to funk to jazz in a single song. I like sevendust because I've been singing along to their songs for 20 years and i have aged as they have. I like Hans Zimmer because in my opinion he's like the punk rock version of classical/instrumental music. He doesn't write like John Williams or mozart , Hans Zimmer will take 4 chords and repeat them over and over with the right kind of attitude to make epic music. Sometimes I hear music totally different than how others seem to hear it. For example to me Meshuggah cranked at high volume is metal but at moderate or low volume Meshuggah sounds like jazz on super low tuned guitars.

Sugar was a great band, intense hard rocking guitar pop. Rufus writes complicated, showtune style stuff and the man doesn't have a rock and roll bone in his body.
