What type of string for a Warwick corvette?

Hey,

I play a Warwick corvette (swamp ash), the strings haven't been replaced since 1997 (I bought it second hand).

But what kind of strings should I use? I play funk and blues most of the time (if that matters).

So... go ahead: suggest and educate me :)

DR strings........depends on tone and tension.........look them up. I like the marcus miller set........fatbeams I think? I have friends that play funk and pop and swear by the high beams for brightness or the low riders for tension and pop (they are hex core). In the end, its personal preference. I am not a string snob. I like DRs but have played D'addario nickel wounds often and even GHS Boomers, as well as fender nickel wrapped steel (?) Play what you like.......that's my 2 cents.

PS-my main basses for years have all been Warwicks.........I suggest the DR, a little more costly but tonally worth it to me!

I have a warwick corvette $$ and I use DR Hi-Beams, I've used Warwick black labels and EB hybrid slinkys, and the Hi-Beams just give me the sound I want. I would say that Hi-Beams just add to the growl. makes it sound sweet

I play Blues and some rock with a Warwick Corvette $$ 5 and a Lakland 55-01 fretless both with the most popular flats, Daddario Chromes. To me, Blues and flats are inseparable.

I'm keepin' Chromes on the Wick, but toying with the idea of TI Jazz Flats on the 55-01.

Why on the Warwick? It's 34" scale and I like the tension/feel of the strings on the Corvette which gives me the freedom to dig in without a bunch of fret buzz issues, even with a mid to low setup.

I also would add that I use a GK700RBII head with Neo 212-II's which give me a lot of latitiude for tones, especially added to passive/active, pickup phasing and 2 band EQ on the Corvette $$.

Roto Swing 66s will work exceptionally well with the inherent growly characteristics that your Warwick has.

WW Black Labels and EMPs are both very nice.

Just not a DR fan. Tried their strings twice over the years; one set had a string that broke after a week, another set died very quickly on me.

Dean Markley Blue Steels thicken up the WW sound and tend to reign it in a little, but it's a nice, big and thick tone. That was my blues string of choice.

Currently, I'm trying some GHS Super Steel Contact Cores and really like them. They have a lot of clarity and definition, but as they're settling in, the tone is mellowing to a warmer low end.

Anyone use flats? If so, what sets fit without having to make adjustments?!? lol my 5 string is already annoying because of the Low B, now I'm having issues getting something to fit in the G nut slot.

Ive tried the chromes several times and I love the feel and finger tone, but for funk I keep going back to my S.I.T. RockBrights, I think they are better than DR's personally.

Sadowsky Black Labels in the heavier gauge...they come with a tapered B which should keep you from a radical setup change.

DD chromes are not tapered B so it's a major readjust with the two piece bridge but within the range of adjustment. I'm using chromes for now.
