What was your first amp (old guys only)

First started playing through my stereo in my bedroom.

First band that I joined (1981) owned an SVT. I couldn't figure out why all the bass amps I played in stores didn't sound like the one that the band owned. So I didn't bother getting one for a few years. When I finally did, it was a Peavey Centurion. What a POS.

I got it used in 1988 for $150 and I was such a noob I didn't know what a great piece of gear it was. The guitarist in my band let his drunken idiot buddy play with it while I wasn't at our practice place and he broke it. Rather than getting it fixed, I sold it for parts and bought a crappy little Laney Linebacker 100 head to replace it. Sure wish I had the Ampeg back.

1984 at 15 yrs old a Westbury W255/115 Bass Amp 1 channel amp on a 15 cab.....it worked fine until my friend's blew up the speaker! Then a year or so later my brother blew up the amp using it for vocals! To be replaced by a Peavy Mark IV (built like a tank) and a Kustom 15" cabinet

Actually this was my second amp a Supro from Montgomery Wards with a 15" Jensen. It was completely open on the back.
My first amp was a Green Bell P.A. amp into the back of a Zenith television set using a set of alligator clips to connect it to the 12" speaker in the back of the set. It was pretty tough to carry the T.V. to band practice.

1965 I got my first amp an Ampeg SB-12, a lovely little amp I wish I still had it ( I do have a B-15N )
1967 Fender 50 watt Silverface w/ the large 2 X 12 cab
1968 I added another 2 x 12 cab and then an Ampeg 2 x 15 cab
1970 got a Polaris 100 watt Sunn clone w a 2x15 JBL D-140 cab
1974 Blew the Polaris on the road and got my first SS head a nondescript Peavy bass head unknown wattage.
1978 Started using rack gear w/ Poweramp + Preamp combos gear varied
1985 SWR SM-400
1995 Glockenklang Soul head
2009 picked up a Sunn 200S and a Guild Thunderbass for fun.
2009 Carvin BX-500 Died 2 months out of warranty ...piece of S***
2010 Genz Benz ShuttleMax 12.

used with a varity of Aguilar, Bergantino, Schroeder, Sunn, and assorted cabs.

+1 on the Silvertone amps that had 4 inputs for organ,2 guitars and of course a Kent Bass.............My first real bass amp was a Sunn Collesium which had (2) 15's and a boost pedal, I bought it from Manny's Music (1971)

Mine was in 1979, an Alamo Challenger amp. i think it was a little 112 combo... i taped two thick picks together to play it in our band so i could be heard over the drummer...!

1974 Fender Bassman 50 head and 1x15 cab. I couldn't afford a better amp, but I thought it sounded just fine. I played it in a 40's big band and orchestra setting mostly and only jammed with friends in a rock setting. I sold it and my Gibson Grabber to a friend of mine, Mike Femino, before I enlisted in the US Air Force. Mike was attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and needed another instrument. The guy could play just about any instrument he picked up.

Gibson GA-30 back when I was a regular guitar player. My son loaned it to a friend of his and I never saw it again. I really wish I still had it; I paid $10 for it at a garage sale.

Mine was a Plush 100 with a plush 2-15 bottom. Sure looked cool and plush it was with the tufted black Naugahyde. Sounded OK with my early 70s JB. Pictue early 70s my first GIG. I'm sure we played "smoke on the water".

In 73 my Dad bought me a mid 60's Gibson Atlas. I saw one exactly like it on the new Tim McGraw calender this year during Christmas. Not a whole lot to like about it but it gave me a start.

An old Davoli all tube amp. Big and crazy heavy. Sounded very good for guitar, pretty much sucked for bass.

1976 (i think) Fender Bassman 50 with a 1x15 speaker in 1986, sounded good at the time but I could never get enough volume out of it before it started to sound like crap!

Last year I seen it sitting my basement so I cleaned it up changed the tubes and sold it for $600!

I have been wracking my brain for months over my original amp.....this was it....the Supro with a 15" Jensen speaker open in the back!!!!!

I had a Sekova Vulcan hollowbody I played thru it.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane circa 1967.

I used to work at McDonalds 45 hours a week in high school and could barely move to wake up, so I used an appliance timer with the Supro and the Sekova....the bass feedback would shake me out of bed in the morning.

My first amp was a Supro 1x15" 50W (all tube) combo. Great amp.

Funny thing because the amp wasn't great for bass with an open back I bought a used VOX Essex bass amp with 2x12" speakers and 60 watts (all solid state) that blew up within two months. I ended up pulling out the electronics and putting in a speaker jack then hooking the Supro head up to it. It sounded Soooooo much better that way.
