How does Gibson manage to make such small bodies so heavy???

A Walnut Cort Action Bass. I was such a scared kid I was too afraid to try it out in store due to the number of what I thought to be pros trying out instruments loudly.
an ywama fender copy short scale..with 2 humbuckers and plastic toggle switches for pickups, tone and vol pots.

i still have it and it has aged very beautifully (the neck) the body suffers from a stupid refin in white with 80-ties 3d blocks on it.

In 1979 I got a Hondo II with the strings about an inch off the frets.
I didn't know any better but it made me stronger. ;-)

First bass, in 1967, was a cheap Japanese knock-off of a Hofner Beatle bass. My first decent bass was a Gibson EB-1 about a year later.
For me the year was 1976...as a 19 year old I went to see "A Star is Born " and in that movie I saw being played a Fender Precision with a Maple fret board/Natural body. WOW it was beautiful,,so I ordered a Japanese made El Degas Precision copy..Natural Ash body/Maple fret board ($199.00). Looked great sounded good but the neck was like a base ball bat and wayyyy to thick for my short fingers. I kept it for a couple of years,changed the pick up to an Ibanez Super Bass then traded it in. Never have seen it since.
P-bass copy ... loved the fact that it was my first real instrument, abhorred the aesthetics . . .
This isn't mine, but mine was a natural finished Peavey T-20 that looked just like this one.

Hondo 2 p bass copy....what a pos! The pick up used to fall out when ever you leaned foward and the nut never held the strings properly,the g strong would pop off randomly.lucky I didn't give up playing for good because of that bass.
Beauty - Just sold my 1992 Hofner customMy mom showed up with this for my 14th Birthday in 1967 while we were living in Germany.
Late '66 Hofner 501 . She knew I wanted one, but it was a complete surprise.

My first bass was a red Phantom. I bought it at George and Ann's music and pottery shop. I the acquired and 810 fender cab and head from my uncle that I wish I still had. But it didn't fit the Metallica, Metal Church thing I had going on.
It was a Johnson...I dont know how well known they were/are. I got 140 dollars collectively from all my family members for my 12th birthday (thats a good amount for a 12 yr old now that I think about it) and i ordered the bass online. It was sunburst with a white pickguard. Ahhhh the ole Johnson bass

A 78 Fender Musicmaster. Black with a black guard and rosewood board. Played it for about a year before I bought an Ibanez Rick copy.
