Mine was a Blackjack violin bass. It was my brothers but he did nothing with it. I learned on it starting in 1972.

My first bass was a brand called Lotus. I was 14. Anyone have info on this bass? Thinking back...it was all black, rosewood fretboard, clover tuners, P/J pick ups. I'm sure it was a budget bass. I played it forever without an amp haha.

My first bass/amp was a mid-60's 'burst P-Bass, and an Acoustic 360 head, with an Ampeg 4x12 cab, loaded with JBL speakers. Not a bad rig for a kid's 12th birthday, huh? That was in 1978.

I was patient and saved up my money and asked my dad for a ride to get a bass I spotted in the classified ads. I bought the '76 Jazz bass in 1981 early in my high school days. I was spoiled, the school had a pre-CBS precision bass and a flip top.

Still have the bass and it is now worth quite a bit more than the $325 I paid for it.

Me too! I rock an Ibby now and can't help but miss my 13 pound boat anchor! I went to go replace it earlier this year and those things are like $500 still!!!

Yea I bought a T-40 for 60 bucks with the plastic case back in 95 and really liked it.

Huh, mine was a Czech made Jolana bass with weak pickups and awful strings. Essentially, it was something of a telecaster shape thing, and despite all of the bad things, it also featured a couple of really nice ides that I wonder how come no other makers have come to offer.

My first bass was a hand me down from my son. It was a Indonesian black Squier jazz which was bowed like a, well, bow.

1977 Midnight Blue Rickenbacker 4001.
bought in 1991 (junior year in high school), my friend and I drove out to The Music Crib outside Chicago. I bought it fro $300. Man, what a beauty she was!
that was before Ebay totally inflated used instrument prices. i guess you pay for convenience!

You know the neck on that P bass is still intact unlike the EKO. Nice trade.

it was a bc rich which looked exactly like the duff mckagan fender... white with black hardware and a matching bc rich headstock... was in pretty bad shape... lost track of it and never saw anything like it again... maybe someone just put the neck on it...

When I decided to play bass I traded my Memphis guitar and about $40-50 dollars for a used Fender Musicmaster at a music shop downtown San Diego. This was in the early 80s, the Musicmaster got stolen about 10 years later.
