What was your first bass guitar?

1st bass

It was either 1988 or 89 my parents bought me a Series 10 bass exactly like the one in the picture. The purple crackle finish was totally awesome to the max!(remember the 80s?)

Mine was a total mutt of unknown origin, a slab of cheap light wood that I bought used. It came with rubber coated strings which I loved and never replaced (did not know better). The dang thing actually played and sounded great.

Squier Affinity P-Bass Black on white. Wasn't taken care of. Terrible action. Had a big 'ol back boy when I bought it. Still, l wouldn't trade it for the world.

2005 Mexican fender p bass. I was 9, still my only bass( soon going to remidy that with a you-know-what) and still played daily. The frets are pretty beat up.

Unknown vintage Casino P-bass copy. Bought at a pawn shop for $110 - was playing a bit of guitar at the time and decided to give it a go almost on a whim.
Not very playable and heavy as.

Played it for maybe a week then leant it to an acquaintance for over a year (not even a friend, really barely knew him).

Got into a band when my father told somebody I owned a bass. Got it back about 4 days before the first practice. Played the guitarists bass for rehearsals.
Got a new bass for myself maybe two months later. Leant this bass to another acquaintance, again for over a year.

Got it back, leant it to my brother in law for a couple of years.

Got it back and stored it in the garage for years.

Used it for a backup at a couple of gigs, actually sounds really nice.

Stripped the paint to practice refinishing. Discovered that under the black paint it had a veneered front on a multi part body (WHY??)

Gave up on the refinishing as the wood was really not stainable. Currently sitting in parts. Will be painted solid, put back together, given a proper setup and fret dress for practice before I do any of my other basses. Still weighs to much.

1979 Ibanez Studio ST-924. Bought from a keyboard player in 1986 who didn't like it and replaced it with a Westone because it "wasn't shiny or anything". His loss was my gain.*

Beautifully made bass. Still have it. I was lucky to have such a high-quality bass to learn on.
Weighs about 11,000 pounds.

*I must admit, his new Westone was very shiny.

Exactly like the one in the center.
