What was your first bass guitar?

I've just been playing bass for a couple of years. I started out on a Factory 2nd Ibanez SR something or other - the lower end soundgear with soapbar pickups - since then I've gifted it to my middle son for his school jazz band.

Now I play, mostly, an Ibanez ATK800 - I don't own any super expensive basses, but I have thought a lot about a Warwick Thumb at some point in the future.

I play MAINLY alternative rock/metal and folk rock, at least for the moment.

First and only bass main for 13 years was an Epiphone 5120e. Second was an MIJ E series Jazz Bass Special that was the boss for 25 years. Now it's a Drake model 7 or MIJ jaguar deluxe depending on the gig with either the JBS or an FGN MJ-E jazz bass as a backup. The four in my profile pic

My first bass was a "Walnut"pre-Ernie Ball '79 MusicMan Sabre with a maple fingerboard.

20 basses and 35 years of "attempted Jazz Fusion fumbling"later.
My main bass now is a Dean Sledgehammer 5. Snapshot_20151006 (2).jpg

My first bass was a 1977 Hondo P-Bass purchased in 1980. I play country/blues/50's-60's pop and some 70's rock-n-roll in a cover band and I use my 1984 P-Bass or my Warmoth Jazz. In the fusion/rock group I use a Warmoth 5 string P-Bass or my Mayones BE Exotic 5'er.
Kudos for playing Fusion/Rock!

First Bass was a Harmony Bass. Since then I've been thru a couple dozen Basses including MIA & MIM Fenders, a Lakland, a few Ibanez, Squiers and a Spector. My main player now is the SX J you see me playing in my avatar.

My first bass was an Avon Precision copy. I have no idea of the year, I was about 11 years old, but my dad bought it for me used. He worked for Jet Records and was (he's passed away now) a very good friend of Bob Daisley who picked it out for me. I learned on it and a few years later when I had my first gigs my dad showed up with a Jazz bass for me. It was amazing. However that bass was stolen, and I used my Guild B301 for a few years.

I Bought a 64 Precision in 1989 and it was my number 1 until I (sort of) retired it this year. I'll never sell it, it's a part of me and we've been everywhere and done everything together.

My first bass was a no named copy of an EB-3 (bolt on neck). I ended up Jaco-izing it, pulled the frets and filled 'em in, can't remember why I did that. I used it for a year or 2 until I got my '72 P-bass ($175.00 used in '79), had to sell the EB-3 copy for some $...wish I still had it, the nostalgia first bass thing. My current bass? Well, several, the '72 Pbass still in rotation, a MIM Jazz, Mid 90's EBMM Stingray, and '01 Squier PJ (just remodeled, added a J to Squier Pbass), this will get most of my current gigs, I need to figure it out.
