What was your first bass guitar?

One day I decided to learn how to play an instrument and picked bass. I did not know how to play but went out and bought a cheap P-Bass kit and learned first by building the instrument. Eventually, I upgraded all of the parts and ended up giving the bass to a friend's daughter. I dug up this old picture of that first bass. I paired it with a cheap Line6 bass amp.

My current primary bass is a Marleuax Consat Custom that I picked up a few weeks ago. This is going through an Aguilar Tonehammer 500 and a Bergantino HD112 cab.

My first bass was a Harmony my dad got at a pawn shop for $65 in the early 90's. Like this one:

It played as horrible as it looks, but I stuck with it and played it until the next Christmas when I got a much better Epiphone AccuBass (P clone).

Now my primary is a toss up between my 1993 Stingray 4 string, or my 1995 5 string Thumb bass.

First bass I bought was a Kramer-era Spector. Current main bass(es) are Ibanez ATK's. I try other things but seem to keep gravitating back to them.

My first bass was when I was 12 in 1975 a $99 National sort of P-bass thingy as it was the missing instrument in the neighborhood band. After about a year I was able to save up and buy an Aria Jazz Bass clone - beautiful bass really. Natural finish, block inlay maple neck... learned to play on that bass until it was stolen in 1980. A succession of basses (Rics, Fenders, Squiers, Lakland) until my current Elita Certainbass Jazz Bass spec'd the way I wanted it. Been my main player since 2009... an absolute joy to play. Jazz, blues, rock, funk, prog, handles it all.

this is my 98 mim p bass my dad gave it to me for x-mass in 98 its had a new neck sense then. had many basses after that but always come back to my beloved p bass i have just come to the conclusion this will always be my mane player. and all others are vacations.

My first bass was a Yamaha BB300 - maybe it was a BB200. Anyway - loved it, defretted it, sold it after a few years.

Main bass now is a Spector ReBop P/J prototype.

My first bass was a black Aria Pro II that my dad and i found in a pawn shop when i was in high school. We picked it up and a small combo amp thay looked like it was from 1920. Man I wished I would have held on to that bass. So many guitars and basses since then.

First was a Peavey T-40 I got new in 1983. I don't have a single main bass out of my four, but lately I've been playing my G&L JB and M-2500.

1979 Ric Jetglo 4001 bought new for $450 with OHSC. Main player now is 83' G&L L2000. I'm building a clone of the 4001, full circle.

I managed to find a picture of my very first bass.. a Japanese Kingston bass that I paid $50. I don't have too many pictures of it.

My first real bass is this 78 J bass I bought new in 78. The only thing changed in it is one pot and the pickguard is not original. For a while I had it off and when I was putting it back on I broke the piece that goes on top of the neck so I decided to replace it with a tort guard. I still have the other hardware for it. I rarely play it and have thought many times of selling it but I just can't bring myself to do it.

1st bass was a 1965 "Topline" that my Dad got me for my 10th birthday in 1965 from Werleins For Music(New Orleans store long ago P. P. Werlein - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ). It was a Japanese P-clone with a neck like a telephone pole(thickness-wise) made when Japan was still figuring out how to make quality basses. I used the original strings for a year and then black nylon tape wounds and then back. No pictures that I've got or found with siblings cleaning out my Mom's home when she passed away. He also brought home a Gregory Bass 60A tube amp

with cabinet(4 x 10 staggered or 6 x 8, don't recall). That amp did last until I got a "real" amp(Acoustic 370 with 301 bottom) in 1972 or 73.

No primary since I have many and days to play are short(?) once you realize you're 60 years old so they get rotated a lot.

One most favorite is a Fame/Hondo with a factory Kahler and Seymour Duncan's that looks and sounds great PLUS refuses to go out of tune no matter the abuse you give the bass or the trem. It does weigh a ton(a little less than a Peavey T-40) so my back doesn't like using it for 4 hours straight these days. Here it is with a much-lighter Gibson(with a Kahler of course):

First Bass was Kay short scale (I've seen the same identical Bass branded as a Teisco.), that my Dad paid $32.50 for, in '76 or '77.
I don't have a main Bass, but I have 3 that share the starting lineup: a J Bass (w/roundwounds), a P Bass (w/flats) and a Ray 34. (w/roundwounds)

My first bass was a Global bass ordered from a JC Penney catalog when I was about 14.

My current main bass is a handmade Curbow single cut hollow body 6-string that Greg Curbow completed for me in 2007, and I've probably owned 60-70 other basses over the nearly 40 years I've been playing.
