What was your first bass guitar?

Mine was a Squier Affinity P bass.
I hated that bass. Dead spots everywhere.
A real dog.
So happy to see it go i gave it away.

Mine was a Peavey T-40, black with maple fretboard, which my parents bought me new in 1983 when I joined a band on bass. I played it for the rest of high school in a few bands. In the summer of 1986, a work colleague who attended Berklee used it for a recording project, and raved about the tone. A few months later, it was stolen out of a locked band rehearsal room in my frat's basement, so I don't have it.

As is well-documented, these things were/are heavy. Even as an energetic high school kid, I wanted a stretchy neoprene strap to manage the weight. I loved playing it though.

What was your first bass? When did you purchase/receive it and do you still have it?

For me it was a white Peavy Foundation given to me as a Christmas gift from my parents in 1984 or thereabouts. Kept it for about four years before trading it in.

It was an Aria Pro II SB... something on loan from my uncle. It looks like an SB 700 but for some reason I don’t think that was the model number. I have since returned it.

My son played it for the high school jazz band for three years. I do regret selling it when he graduated from grade 12.

A former friend gave me this non-op flea market Ibanez GIO 3 years ago saying I'd given it to him years years before. Soldering back one loose wire made it sing and new D'addario nickels made it sing sweeter. Donated it to my kids old school when I wanted something better. Now my bass playing is, if not great music, my favorite therapy. I hope some kid is playing the old Ibby.

Yamaha something or another, single P pickup. Put it on layaway when I was waiting tables and starting a reggae band ca 1986. Wrote a bunch of songs with it (and an old Yamaha keyboard). When my house caught fire, it was the one instrument I grabbed. I only had that bass about a year before I traded it in for a new Fender that I still have. Then there was another Fender, and a borrowed Ampeg baby bass, which were more than enough until I started hanging out around here... and, well, you know what happens when you hang around here.

My first real bass is a D'armond pilot pro.
I still have it, I am currently letting a student use it. I like the bass but, it feels cheap next to my others now. I have been debating for years if I should put new pups and pre into it. Maybe someday. It servived a almost de fretting job. It's 25 years old now.

It’s jazz cousin is the first bass I purchased myself after learning on the loaner mentioned in my other post. They’re good basses!

My first bass was a mid-60s Japanese Teisco Gibson SG copy. I bought it in 1967 for $5 and a tab of acid.

I sold it for $25 and bought a new Fender Telecaster Bass a year or so later.

My first bass was a early '80s Hondo 830 deluxe. Virtually new condition, I got it for xmas 1985. I played it for several years. It was replaced with a Fender Jazz bass special. I still have both. I later sanded the top off the Hondo and had a friend wood-burn into it. It's a piece of art now as the neck is warped and the truss rod is seized up.

My brother bought me My first bass, a Lyon by Washburn. It was white. I cant remember if it was a p or pj... I didn’t know a damn thing back then. I had it for a year then traded it for a new ibanez Ex that caught my eye.
I still have it... upgraded of course

I had a red Samick Pbass. Traded her for a trumpet. I still have my first ever amp. Both bass and amp bought together back in ‘95
