Mine was a 1965 Kimberly. It had 2 pickups, shiney chrome everywhere and it was a 30" scale. Sold it for $75 in 1981 and bought my Peavey T-20FL

It's a lot noisier than my newer basses since there's no shielding. I had to keep turning the volume down when we stopped so the pansy trombone players wouldn't get upset. I was suprised at how full it sounded with the big band and the sound isn't muddy like you'd expect from the pickup location. The magnets in the pickup are really strong so there is a nice amount of high end in the sound. I'm definitely going to put it back into the rotation.

First Act bass
Still using it, as I'm still in the learning stage. First thing I did was switch the strings, and it's really not that bad. A friend sold it to me along with the amp and a surprisingly helpful beginner book for $50. It's a short scale, though, so I don't want to get too used to playing it and then trip up when I switch to a long scale.

my first bass: A 1981 LYLE SG copy bass I bought new, although I still have it, and jam on it in the jam room, it has not seen the outside world for many years. I actually did a youtube video using it recently, cause a friend wanted to see it in action again. this pic is from 2006 when I was doing some jamming for friends-- now that this thread has brought up some interesting "first" topics, I will have to post my first bass AMP, a PLUSH 100 watt head and matching cab. -- looked exactly like a KUSTOM amp with the tuck and roll black vinyl fabric? ( forgive my descrip if it is wrong )<< is that what it was called? I still got all that stuff, but NEVER use it anymore.

1985 Hohner Headless B2A
Copy of the hip bass Steinberger back then!
Neck twisted due to some idiot (not me) left it next to a radiator for the Christmas period in 1988, since then sat in the case with my brother.
Took the bass out this year, amazingly the twist is 99% gone! Dont's know why and how! but gone. Now sitting proundly at my home.

My first bass was a used, Cortez P bass clone with a black body, white PG and Rosewood neck, complete with ashtrays and ancient flatwound strings...traded it in on an early 80's T 40 which was my first new bass.

"Heit" short-scale J-Bass looking POS.
Inspired me to work two years of Saturdays till I earned enough to buy a brand-new natural/maple '76 Mustang that had Fender "thick-skin" finish so deep the woodgrain was out of focus ;-}.
