What Washburn Bass Do You Own (Database)?

Here is some of my B-200 and "LP" stuff. You see the LP is said to be an LP in Germany. And it sure looks like the B-200 (set neck, active, solid body) I have posted below. But then here is also an LP-40 full length, not LP'ish at all AND the picture shows a name on the truss rod cover. I can only assume the guy can read his own headstock and it must say LP-40 as he claims. There is a big BUT with this as you will later see. Also you will see the info he posted IN GERMAN--but I cannot translate it.

So we are left with "LP" in Germany which is certainly B-200'ish and LP (Les Paul) in body shape VS LP-40 with regular shape yet a name on it!! Wow! What do we make of it?!!

And here is the "LP-40" in Germany WITH a name on truss rod cover. I can see this "LP-40" is actually a B-40 (it is Wing series you notice) with, again, mislabeling anomalies from Washburn. I think that erases it from the equation. But we are left with the fact that an LP-40 DOES have a named truss rod cover as it evidently is placed on this B-40! I have to bug that German vendor again to please show me the damn headstock---he says the basses are warehoused and a hassle to get to.

So that tells us the LP's in Germany ARE actually LP-40's which are actually B-200's IMO, and were sold originally only in Europe (as iriegnome said) as LP-40 WITH that name on it.

Den Bass habe ich vom ehemaligen Bassisten der Gauchos übernommen. Weil die Bünde schon etwas eingelaufen sind wollte ich noch solch einen Bass haben. Bei der Suche bin ich dann auf die verschiedenen Modelle aus den Achtziegern gestoßen. Besonders die Konstruktion der Bässe mit dem durchgehenden Hals und das die Seiten durch den Body geführt sind finde ich toll. Er hängt auch super weil das obere Horn bis über den 12 Bund reicht.
Er ist vom Sound her ein toller Bass. Mit seinem durchgehenden Hals, der auch noch etwas länger ist als bei Standartbässen, hat er Sustian ohne Ende. Ich habe ihn mit EMG Pickup`s bestückt. Werde aber wieder die Alten einbauen damit er wieder Original ist.

AHA! The second picture is a headstock and name of B-200 from 1994 per owner who said the STICKER serial number came off at some point. I also have an ad or something for them in my files----gotta look for it. I think they started coming out in 1986 or so and evidently went to at least 1994. ??? Crap---another investigation for me.:hmm:

yep - as you can see "Ethel" has had a rough life. Been all over with me from the 80's thrash days. She's been broken in half (twice) - glued /screwed back together but still bellow's with the best of 'em. Replaced the original p/u last year with a passive Kent Armstrong.

As far as I can tell, the XB125's are made in Indonesia from Alder (that's right, good wood!), with a rosewood fingerboard on a bolt-on neck (5 bolts), and Washburn soapbar active pups powered by a 9v battery in its own compartment. The sound is mid-heavy, its quite powerful for a 9v active system. Volume knobs for each pup and a tone knob that's also a pull to passive mode, which I don't recommend, its quite weak in passive mode. The neck is really fast for a 5er, really playable, but mine's not easy to get a very low action on (it wants a shim), and its not really a soloing bass in the very high frets. It's close to the G&L #8 neck for those who knows those necks, thin, tapering and shallow. Its not a slapping bass, not for my technique anyway.

I use a fairly underpowered practice amp with 2x10" and I use a Boss GT-10B to tone the low mids and bass down a bit to avoid blowing the speakers! I've run it through an Ampeg 4x12 cab and svt pro head and its just massive. As I say on the other thread, its really a metal/reggae/rnb and possibly blues bass, good definition on the B-string but you'd need quite bright strings to do any other styles well on it. It plays nice with the GT-10B and I can use that to get a few different sounds out of it, but it's really meant to be warm and deep and that's what I prefer using it for.

The only disappointments for me is the passive mode and the difficulty (at least for my hands) of soloing above the 12th fret. But it does what it's good at very well, and I highly recommend getting some DR neons which are warm yet growly and getting your riddim on. I've also heard good things about DR Hi-Beams on these basses. See here Dani California on a XB125

Hi, I picked this up a Sarzo model B-70 last night, and I'm curious as to how to date it. The serial # is partially rubbed-out, but I'm told it's a Matsumoku. Any telltales I should look for? And does Washburn have a way to date these? Haven't found their site- still looking but I thought I'd ask anyway. Pix soon...

Hi Count Bassie---Lets see some photos of it and, if you can,a close photo of the SN area, please? The B-70 came out in 1984. I have found examples of the 1984 and 1985 B-70 (RS) but NEVER have I found one with a 1986 serial number. Does it play well? How is the set-up?

Set up is ok. I need to give it a little attention, but I played it at rehearsal last night and it was feeling pretty good. She sounds very nice indeed (def 80s metal, we played Eurpoe's "The Final Countdown" and it felt right in its pocket), though none of the knobs actually function! So it's 'plug-n-play' until I can get the wiring addressed. The guy I got it from had done a Burr-Brown Op Amp mod, but didn't mess with the pots, etc. He said it was more routing than he wanted to tangle with.

There's a screw missing from a bridge saddle, a few dings in the finish- it's been used pretty well, but it\s generally still in good shape. I'll get some pix tonight.

Thanks. I've moved the strap buttons to where I need 'em to be, and it is now, for my peculiar ergonomic requirements, a player indeed! Needs a truss rod tweak still, but tonight I'll get there. And yeah it's a fun bass, even if you don't have the hair for it! (Anymore!...) :smug:

Heya Count Bassie------------Holy Smoke---does that say K851986? Yes, it does. When I highlighted the picture in blue, the SN then stands out pretty clearly. Your bass is 1985. I also found a "K" SN for 1985 in a 2009 post at Washburn where the guy says:"....G-5V with a droopy headstock. The serial # is K850576." I am pretty sure Matsumoko did not make it as I think they dropped out of Washburn production in 1984 IIRC and the "K" SN could very well been made by Kasuga in Japan. I do not think Washburn went to Samick in Korea thate early. I wish In knew for sure.
