Funnily enough, the Wentz sig bass, actually quite an excellent sounding and playing bass. Also a bass with a rare for P bass option that a lot of people mod their axes for, a Jazz neck.

I would get one, Ive heard they are decent sounding and playing instruments. I would strip it and repaint it though lol

What were Squier thinking? They were thinking that they wanted to sell some instruments and stay in business. They were also thinking that they don't really care what the occasional hater thinks, but only what the masses think. Finally, they were thinking that if they made an Avril Lavigne signature Telecaster they would expand their market share and/or customer bass, which goes back to the first point. Fender/Squier has one of the best marketing divisions on the planet, and they do their research. If they make an instrument, then they did so because they believe it will sell.

I'd never heard of Mikey Way prior to your post, but that does look like a cool bass.

By way of comparison, I'd be curious to know how many guitarists that have Les Pauls own one of Les's CDs?

If Squier made a Chris Squire signature, the resultant typographical confusion would make TB melt down in 13.7 minutes.

not funny at all man, I know there are alot of emo kids and then there are the REAL emo kids, kids that DO cut themselves out of desperation and pain, kids I have worked with and have seen in so much pain inside of them. Cutters are NO JOKE, I know it's easy to make fun and all but please consider the fact that there are kids out there with serious issues. I know b/c my daughter is one of them. Peace

That's what angers me, why do they compliment these tweeny pop stars by giving them these signatures? I get that they're a company and that they need to make money, but Avril Lavigne? What an absolute joke.

YOu can knock on Avril but did you know she has a college education as well as her own clothes line. She also has contributed to a childrens website called "Stardolls" that she helps design. She also writes almost all of her music herself whicch is more than you can say for most performers nowadays. I have seen her live and this girl really can play and with no lip syncing either. So hate it all you want and to each his own but Avril is ok with me.

If it were a Britney Spears model or someone who doesnt even write there own music I could understand.

Well anyway, I just jumped onto the Fender website because my GAS levels were rising and the first thing I see is that they have released an Avril Lavigne signature Tele.

Now I know it's only a Squier and will at most be worth a couple of hundred bucks, but what I don't get is what these horrible, horrible 'musicians' have done to deserve a signature model?

Horrible musicians with millions of fans and a record deal... Just because you don't believe someone "rates" a signature instrument doesn't mean the company should. I personally don't like Avril Lavigne, does that mean she's a horrible musician? No, and here is why:

Teeny booper pop stars sell products, would be my guess. Entry level instruments aimed at young players is the marketing strategy here. It's totally legal and if you find the bass ugly, then you probably are not going to buy one. Guess what, there is a big enough audience for this model, chose a different bass.

Since a lot of kids start out playing the cheaper Squier guitars and basses,then it would make sense for them to make signiture guitars and basses of folks they like to listen to as well. It makes Squier more money and gives them an advantage over other brands that do not do this with models made for beginners. Good marketing advantage. The goal is to make money, is it not? Besides, we all know that in today's music market, where flash and bang is more important than musical ability, it's always style over substance. Yes, there are always the great musicians and singers who deserve more exposure than these pop idols, but such is the way of the world.

"were" is correct, actually. "Was" is the singular, "were" is the plural. Since it was more than one person making the decision, "were" is the correct word. Also, it depends on intent: if the intent is to treat the company as a single entity, then "was" would be correct, if you are talking about the people within it, then "were" is correct. In this case, the company didn't make the decision, the people did, so "were" is the only correct choice. Perhaps you should have paid attention in English class. Spelling class, too, since the company is "Squier."

I can't believe I am about to do this but I have to defend Avril Lavigne. First, she writes most of her own music unlike many current pop stars. Second, the songs really aren't that bad compared to much of the other pop music out there. I mean it isn't my favorite stuff but this stuff is for kids and I would rather kids listen to Avril than a ton of other stuff that is out there at least it has some level of musicality.
