i would still gof or option 2 because then i could get experiance from a wider range of basses such as fretless/ fretted, 4/5/6/7/8 strings etc.

im not saying i will never dig deep into my pockets for some high end gear, but im not one to spend lots on a guitar due to financial obligations.

I would try and get two Warwicks, although they would have to be used, for £1000. I ideally would like a fretted and a fretless 5-string Corvette $$. Yum.

That's not an easy one to answer. I have six basses now. My two favorites are the one I paid the most for, and the one I paid the least for.

I think, since I already have 6 basses, the money would go for a single, special jazz type bass of some sort. If I was just starting out and didn't have a bass at all, though, I'd spread the money out to at least get a fretless and a fretted bass.

So is this all just hypothetical or is someone really actually handing you some cash to buy what you want? I don't see the difference in spending it on one bass or five basses as far as other financial obligations go. If you spend it, the money is gone, right?
So lets hear the reality here;- you're getting the money and buying one bass or more or your just blowing smoke on the web. Which is it?

Since I'm getting into the market for a five string. I would order myself a Translucent Teal Music Man HH StingRay 5 or hold out for the new Sterling 5. With a matching headstock of course.

I would buy the very best bass you can find. I have 2 rickenbackers, one fretted, one fretless and some other p basses and an upright Kay, but I love my Ricks the most and they are really versatile. I dont think getting a great instrument can be wrong because they keep their value more so than a cheaper one, usually.

I don't think I could have 1 "perfect bass" I have a few basses that are great at what they do. With one bass I wouldn't have a fretless or a bass with single coils etc...

I would opt for #2

Depends what I had already. You could get 2 plenty nice basses for 1900 bucks. OTOH, I'd buy one good one over 3-4 cheapies for the same total
