Henry J. needs to go, in better (more imaginative) hands Gibson could do well with what's been suggested here as re issuses. Under a better management team Gibson's pathetic QC and labor issues could be addressed and corrected. The financial side of the company is evidently quite weak presently, hopefully someone will buy the company and make something good of it.
Has anyone said Robot Bass yet, or are we still complaining about their stupid prices?
They are not that much more. MF prices, T-Bird $1499.00 MIA Jazz $1249.00 That's $250.00 With neck through and nitro finish it really isn't out of line. One can split hairs but they are in line with most USA made basses. As far as CQ, I got my SG sight unseen and it the best fit and finish of any bass I have ever got. May be I got lucky but You can't find a flaw on it, best frett job I have ever seen. YMMV
I wish I was as lucky as you, sir! Last time I had some expendable cash, I was in the market for a Gibson... either the SG reissue or a T-Bird. Played a couple of each, and did not think the price-tag was worth the quality of the instrument I had in my hands. Was this more of an issue of the staff at the music shop leaving their demo models to get mangled, was it a bigger issue of sketchy QC at Gibson, was it both? I dunno, but I left not wanting a new Gibson anymore. Next time I've got some (lots) of running around money, I'll go vintage if I want another gibson, I guess.
Or using old purchased brandnames for inferior products, ie Maestro.
A long overdue apology for the Ripper, the Grabber, the EBO, and the Les Paul Recording bass.
