What would your 2 basses be?

These 2 I think but maybe the MIA Jazz and a MIA P bass.

Tell me about the black J on the left. I don't recognize that configuration, but it is a very cool looking bass.

If I could only pick two it would be
My Fretless MIJ J and My fretted 63 AVRI P

That is about the prettiest J I've seen. And I don't really care for black basses even though I own two. My wife says my black J is my prettiest, but she is a fiddle player so what does she know. :D

I use a duo of J basses. It's not that I don't think a P would be a better mix (if my personal tone from my fingers were taken out of the equation), but something about how I play makes P's sound like garbage. I've had P basses other people made sound amazing and I played them, and they sounded like a bad knock off of a Squier. So my stable consists of this currently.

I'd go with my red one (5 string Martin Keith with Precision and Musicman pickups) and my green one (5 string Martin Keith fretless with jazz pickups). Of course, I'd be perfectly happy with my other two also...maybe those would be better lifetime instruments to master because their tones are more unique. Eh, let's go with one fretted and one fretless from my stable.

Interesting that this topic should come up: my family and I are moving overseas and have decided that we want to pare down our life. As a result, we're purging about 90% of our stuff, including my entire bass rig and most of my gear. I'm down to a total of two basses (and two other guitars)...

I have to say - not having so much "stuff" around is INCREDIBLY liberating...

Moving overseas is an exciting prospect and best of luck to you!

I agree that it DOES feel good to purge things...possessions...stuff every now and again. I have come to where I really prefer to travel light.

My family lost all our stuff in a flood a few years back. It hurt, but it was just "stuff" and it is astonishing how quickly "stuff" accumulates. Four years since the flood and you'd never think that at the end of 2010 we really didn't own anything other than a couple of cars, some clothes and a bit of kitchenware.

I am planning on a big garage sale soon, and will donate whatever doesn't sell to Goodwill.

From that point on, I am going to be very watchful and mindful of anything that comes into our home. My wife is on the same page. Fortunately, nobody in my family is terribly materialistic.

Sincerely, good luck to you!
