What would your 2 basses be?

Which 2 bass combo would you find most versatile?

I had been thinking a 4-string P with flats and a 5-string J with rounds but have given up on 5 string basses.

Now I'm beginning to think I'd prefer 2 P's, one fretted one fretless.

Or maybe one should be a J for slat tone.

OK - I'll say a fretted PJ and a fretless P.
my Gibson eb2 and my p-bass

that fretless is just drool

how long have you had the pair may i ask

cheers

The fretless is sick. Got it back in Dec of last year and liked it so much that I ordered a fretted with the exact same woods (got some of the last alder that Ken had). The fretted is really good but the fretless is just crazy. I had a hunch that the Smith preamp/pups would work really well in fretless and ordered one direct from Ken. It has exceeded expectations and is up there with a Zon Lightwave that was also pretty "magic."

A Jazz bass of some sort and a 5 string, 2 pick up stingray. Can cover a whole lot of ground there, except that warwick sound.

A Fender Jazz Bass and another Fender Jazz Bass.

Actually, my question is very real for me. I am in the midst of this very decision. I want 2 and only 2 basses. I was planning on P with flats and P with rounds but am now thinking one should be fretless.

But, I want one for slap as well. Great, now I'm up to 3! (flats, rounds, fretless)!

Well when you put it that way, it's easy! Put the flats on the fretless (your fretboard will thank you for it) and the rounds on the fretted bass.
