Sorry to hear that. I've not seen it and just went and read up on it only because it is enjoying incredible buzz among the churched in my neck of the woods, which usually means it must be a strong message piece pulling hard on high tension Christocentric heartstrings.
After what I skimmed on it, I agree it would have been much more impactful as a doc. I also think it would have trouble finding an audience as a doc among the current crowd of admirers because of the horrific nature of the subject matter. True believers in the basic goodness of mankind and a benevolent savior often reject out of hand any reality which interferes with or questions that belief.
The character the movie is based on is a Mormon with 9 kids, and Jim Caviesel is super duper into Christianity, but it seems like the studio held back on the religious aspects of the character. There's one line where he refers to the kidnapped kids being god's children. That's it. But this movie would pull on the heartstrings of anyone who's against hurting kids, which is most people. But it sucks as movie. The script is bad. The directing is bad. It should've either been amazing, or not a movie at all and a documentary instead.
From what I've read it has a strong Q-Anon connection, and Jim Caviezel is... well. Not a movie I plan on watching.
Yeah, not supporting that crap in any way, shape or form.
From what I've read, the guy, Tim Ballard, has been said to speak about conspiracies similar to those proposed by q-anon but it's not referenced in the movie. The movie sucks though, so no one's missing out.
I’m somewhat familiar with Jim Caviezel and his standing in the religious community, so the positive local reaction to the film is no surprise in spite of the lack of quality of the film.
Same here. Also, why is Mira Sorvino in this nonsense? She used to be taken seriously as an actor.
She didn't have any lines and they showed her profile in two scenes for about 10 seconds each.
"Somebody Feed Phil" on Netflix. If you like food and travel with a sense of humor, this show is for you.

We started re-watching "Sanctuary" this weekend on Amazon Prime. Originally on SyFy, we didn't record it (our pre-DVR days) and only caught it when we thought about it. My wife was a fan before we married, so I'm catching up. The weird thing about that show is most of the sets and backgrounds are computer generated.

It's just ok with me. But my wife loves, loves, loves her some Shark Week LOL. Year after year, she's all about it.
I've learned to just have something sharky on TV before she gets home from work LOL.
