Whatcha watching?

I think I just need to leave Stephen King alone. That guy is messed up in the head to be thinking up the stuff he does.

-Mike
Man does nostalgia better than anybody. But he gets paid for the pure evil we all love to hate. I don't know that he's letting slip more and more of his own darker nature. He might be. Or he could just be feeling more and more pressure to come up with extreme stuff to tweak the outrage.

Either way, I've kind of outgrown him.

The cocaine and alcohol certainly helped. :D Not bashing the guy; I'm a big Stephen King fan. In fact, my favorite book of his is "Insomnia". If you haven't read it, check it out. Love the Dark Tower series books as well. "The Mist" is one of the few stories I've ever read that freaked me out.
I remeber reading Skeleton Crew in high school. The Mist had to be my favorite story in the book as we lived very close to a lake at that time, and I could relate to many of stories visuals.

I just finished Tread, a documentary movie about the Killdozer incident 20 years ago. We’ve all felt that we’ve been wronged at some time in our lives. This guy just took his revenge in a most creative way. I don’t believe anyone was harmed during the rampage which is not how these things usually go.

Watched the original "Planet of the Apes" (1968) today. Seen it plenty before, but it's been awhile. Good to see it again.

Watched "The Flash" (2023) last week. It was on cable TV or Prime, I forget. All I can say is, I watched "The Flash" movie last week.

Big spoilers ahead:

Burnt out on Marvel and DC movie stuff. Liked 'em at first, just lost interest. The version of any of that I have hope for is "The Batman" (2022) with Robert Pattinson. I like the entire tone of the movie and character.

Speaking of Batman, I still like this fan film (~8 mins.).

Am a little late with this since my wife and I watched this on Valentine’s Day evening.
Can’t miss with Bogey and Kate!

Check out the new Zorro series on Paramount. I like it! And I'm a child of the Disney 50s, when Guy Williams starred as Zorro in their series - which made that character just about as famous as the Lone Ranger. If kids in the 50s didn't want to be Superman or the Lone Ranger, you can bet they wanted to be Zorro. It was a BIG hit!

I was pleased that in this new series they have used the character names of earlier series - Don Diego, Bernardo, Monasterio, etc. The black horse Tornado is there, as is the black outfit and the broad-brimmed hat which dates back to the early character and most recently looked great on Antonio Banderas.

One Disney series character is missing for good reason - the fat and not very bright comic Sergeant Garcia. For reasons we all understand, this is not a day and age when a production will include Mexican characters like dumb, fat Sergeants or happy Mexican bandidos. That day is past.

It's shot in the Canary Islands, and they created a very plausible version of Los Angeles in the 1830s and 40s. It has a nice look and the cinematography is well done. There are errors in continuity such as a two-shot derringer that appeared to fire three times, and a scene in which Zorro walks away leaving one of his knives in a soldier he has dispatched.

Here's one little treat for you - there is more than one generation of Zorro in the series, and the first one is played by Cristo Fernandez, who played Dani Rojas in the Ted Lasso series. Nice to see him!

I've always been a sucker for Zorro, who was created by newspaperman Johnston McCully in the 1930s. There's no better swashbuckler in history, even including Errol Flynn in Captain Blood and Robin Hood.

I’m on the last episode of Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Prime - awesome show.

I coincidentally rewatched the movie a month or two ago and remember now that it was blah. The TV series took the idea and reinvented it. Highly recommended...
Mrs Smith is played by Maya Erskine, daughter of jazz great Peter Erskine of Weather Report. :)

Still following Masters of the Air. The CGI is pretty good with the minor exception of when the B17s touch down when landing and some of the taxi sequences have them at a way wrong attitude, but the action sequences are good enough I can forgive the minor flaws.
Same with True Detective season four. It's been an interesting story with some clues but none that make any sense beyond the revelation of a conspiracy to cover up the environmental damage wrought by the mine. It's keeping me guessing, in a good way.

There's a lot of criticism of the MOTA CGI, but hey, it would be impossible to make this with the real thing. I can forgive the imperfections. I actually didn't even notice until they were pointed out.
