Caught the first two episodes of “The Responder”, another Britbox cop show. This one hits a little different. We quite like the vibe. Martin Freeman portrays a deeply flawed copper in Liverpool and he’s no Hobbit here. Ten episodes, two seasons, IMDB rates it a 7.4.
We also watched 28 Years Later - the Bone Tower last week. It was quite good.
So not wrapping it up in three seasons. That's cool.
Didn't Conan do the same thing when he left NBC? I'm not gonna watch this because I can't stand Colbert. Do they mention it?
This reminds of the 5-story tower from Dave's original show. Loved that crazy stuff he did.
No mention of Conan that I heard, but as far as I know Letterman started that, so it was quite nostalgic for those old enough (like me) to remember those shows.
Enjoyed two scifi films within the last week. Both had either aliens or Lovecraftian Old Gods involved (in both films, wasn't clear which). One had a happy (I think) ending, the other didn't. Both were kind of ambiguous.
Into the Abyss (2022) (Not the 2011 documentary on capital punishment) Post-apocalyptic. Great Old Ones or aliens not fully explained ("they came from the sky"). A man just trying to survive.
The Endless (2011) - Grounded, smartly written and acted. Cool handling of localized time loops.
Been watching a series called Quark Science, 6 episodes, hosted by Professor Jim Al-Khalili. Amazon Prime. Each episode covers a subject, such as gravity, chaos, etc. Plain language, logically presented.
Also watching The Repair Shop. Set in a living museum in England, craftspeople repairing vintage items.
Still finding fun old black 'n' white horror and scifi flicks. Occasional series, too. There are 4 apps I check thru. Sci-Fi Classics Channel, Thriller Classics Channel, Classic Film Time, Golden Network TV. I use the free portion, which means commercials. But I don't mind, 'cause I grew up with ads LOL. Plus, the free portion saves on discretionary spending in these economic times.

If you liked the movie, definitely watch the show. So much better.
Ads don't bother me either. Perhaps it is a generational thing since I grew up with them too.
I don't get the lengths people go to and the prices people pay to avoid ads. I actually like how some of the streaming services do ads now, they tell you how many there will be or how long it will last. Quite convenient so I know how long I have if I need to get up or do something else.

I really like Justin and Aaron's work, they've done a bunch of really interesting, inventive, low budget, cerebral sci-fi (doing their own special effects).
If you can track it down, check out their earlier movie "Resolution" , which features several of the same characters as "The Endless" (and really ought to be seen first).
My TV has several of those Sci-Fi / Horror etc channels available as apps (there seems to be a lot of the same content in each one, just laid out differently).
Adverts I can tolerate, but last Christmas my sister and I noticed that "Transylvania 6-5000" was on, which we hadn't seen since we were kids, but loved back in the 80's.
I think there were adverts every 8 minutes, or something crazy, but the worst part was that about 25 minutes into the movie, each ad-break randomly skipped the movie back anywhere from 2 to 10 minutes - so you either had to re-watch several scenes you'd just watched (and endure another ad-break, and random skip), or blindly fast forward, hoping you'd landed nearer where you left - but still have to endure adverts before you found out if you succeeded.
I think we spent nearly 3 hours trying to get through 40 minutes of a 90 minute movie - eventually the cycle of annoyance, anger, rage, hilarity, quest determination to see it through and win, came back round to annoyance, and gave way to exhaustion.
I swore off those channels / apps as a result (and they deleted all those bizarre DIY Video-8 evil Santa Claus "movies" that were very graphic pornography, but it's as if nobody bothered to check the content of their library - just read the "plot" descriptions - until I guess somebody's kids decided to put on a Santa movie. Anyway, I kinda dug that those had snuck in there, and that was part of the overall "charm" of those weird little channels).
Most ads aren't that bad. A few weeks ago HBO was running an ad for a sot machine gambling phone app that was the trashiest thing you could imagine - 90's computer game graphics and sleazy people promising big, Big, BIG! winnings. After a couple weeks it disappeared, I suspect because of the blowback HBO got from viewers.
Yeah, one or two of those apps I mentioned do the 'way too frequent' ad thing. It's crossed my mind to s***can it, but I justify keeping it by thinking, "Maybe it'll improve in the future." I'm good at deluding myself sometimes LOL. I haven't noticed the rewind behaviour yet... But when I do, that app's a goner LOL.
Wow, that's cool. Just found it, so there's my morning viewing. Thanks for that info. I was really impressed with The Endless, so looking forward to it.
