Whatever Gets You Through the Night

    I've always admired the bass playing on this song, but I never figured out who played it or what gear they used. The playing and tone reminds me alot of Dee Murray, I get a jazz bass with flatwound strings vibe. I know it's not him though

    IIRC, it's Klaus Voorman.

    I guess you're probably not talking about the song "Adolescent Sex" by Japan (the chorus has the hook "Whatever gets you through the night (just keep on dancing)") :D

    Voorman was the bass player in the "Plastic Ono Band" and played bass for a fair amount of the George Harrison and Ringo Starr solo stuff....mostly in the 70's.

    He also was the artist who created the "Revolver" album cover for "The Beatles".
