What's coming and going XVIII: (We Don't Need) Rehab

Here:

Revsound 115. Pretty impressive. Very small and like 27# but sounds huge and great.

Coming:
- Empress Effects Bass Compressor, should be here by the end of the week. My first compressor, lots of exploring to do!
- Aion FX Osiris fuzz DIY kit, based on the Black Arts Toneworks Pharaoh fuzz. Early Christmas holiday project.
- Aion FX Spectron Envelope filter, based on the Lovetone Meatball. Early Christmas holiday project.

Going:
- Keeley Gold Star Reverb, fun but I have a Gamechanger Audio Light pedal now, I have enough weird reverb options
- DOD Gonkulator, also fun but I have enough noise options
- DOD 440 Envelope Filter, too little control for my taste, hoping the Aion Osiris can fill the gap.
- cheap Joyo/Mosky/Etc. knock-off drives and fuzzes, just cleaning up a bit (haha, get it?)

Well, I'm back after a short hiatus. No board can stay perfect forever, right?

Coming:
  • EHX Hot Wax. Nabbed a new-demo for $90 on reverb.... the demos put it firmly in 'warm tube overdrive' land and if it does, then I'll flip the B3K.
Going:
  • Darkglass B3K: Don't get me wrong. I really like the B3K for what it is. But it doesn't do that tubey classic rock sound the way I want, and I live in the tubey classic rock world more than face-melty aggressive world. I love the sound on its own, but when I play with folks, which I'm finally doing again... it's just out of place.

Looking forward to your thoughts. I’ve got one of their Purple Stardust high octave fuzz. I’m glad he’s building again.
it's a very nice modded silicon fuzz face. it doesn't have any low end loss (and is actually pretty dark even with the bass control fully counter clockwise. the only real way to brighten it up with with the fuzz control dimed or close to it.

Here and going: Bogner Wessex. It sounds really good but the janky factory foot switch on these is a deal breaker.

Incoming: Boss FD-2, I don’t know why, because it was in the box and I wanted it, also because the seller was selling an HM-2.

So, also incoming: another HM-2. This one ones a MIJ. It completes the HM-2 collection.

Going: I still have to list the Fuzzrocious Lil Fella, DCW ODR, and Benson Boost.

i had a busy weekend but hopefully i'll have time to do a shootout tomorrow with these two (Warm Audio Centavo and my own Bass Klon build):

just compared them side by side. both have exactly the same amount of drive/OD, and sound basically identical with the drive fully counter-clockwise (running clean). with the drive turned up, the Centavo has less low end and more mids than my bass klon making me think that the centavo is slightly more suited for guitar and my bass klon more suited for bass.

Funny thing is that would have been my guess, that yours didn’t drop low's. I have several K types and none of mine sound good with my basses but in fairness that’s not why I bought them. But usually I’ll try any of my pedals on bass and guitar. I think part of what makes a classic K work for guitar is the bass cut.

Hope you are feeling better already!

Did you try the Prunes and Custard ?
Did you get you get it from GAK?
If it’s not your cup of tea let me know
Thanks; I’m feeling much better! I’m in the process of moving though so everything is packed into boxes and playing time has been limited.

I couldn’t resist having a quick go on the Prunes & Custard though: it’s such a weird pedal! I like what it can do but want to spend more time with it to see what the range of it is. I was testing out a Spite Box too and they couldn’t be more different. I’ve got a fair few fuzzes, including some of the weirder ones like the Copilot Orbit but the P&C isn’t really like any of them.

I bought it from Joe’s Pedals. I like his selection and I like dealing with him. I’ve bought a lot from GAK though and have been there a few times when my brother was at music school in town.

I’ll let you know if I don’t gel with it but it may be a while before I can really test it.
