I have three bags, one with stands, other with cables, and the last with mics and bass gear.

Bag 1:

Mic stand, guitar stands, drink holder, backup mic holder, and iPad stand.

Bag 2:

Cable bag, assorted speakers for three different rigs I run, extra instrument cable, extension cord and a six way, pocket on front for iPad (used to mix the foh and monitors)

Case 3:

Wireless and two wired mics, pics, outlet tester, wireless body pack and a spare body pack cord, a couple straps, finger ease, Allen wrenches, small screwdrivers, and a pack of band-AIDS. (Guitarist is sort of clumsy). I just added some hand sanitizer for clean up after a gig if we run our own pa.

I can carry all three plus two basses (dual gig bag) in one shot to the gig. I have three basic amp/speaker rigs I use based on the gig, so I carry a little for everything.

Bass ('76 Musicmaster) with strap kept on
Two 10-foot phono cables
Korg Pitchblack tuner pedal
A bunch of old set lists
I think there are a few old picks floating around somewhere...but maybe not any more.

When I use my J or one of my Ps, I throw the cables and tuner into the hard case (I don't have a full length bass gig bag).

You take a stand up bass on the subway???

Yep-been doing it since '79. All of my upright work now is classical, so it's bass, bow, rosin, and something to read. BG guitars gigs are as stated earlier. The venues I play these days all have backline-my current favorite amp is the one that's there when I walk in.

Two bulging briefcases. I really need to upgrade to something better, but I’m too cheap and lazy. Power/speaker/instrument cables. Three mics that don’t work. (Another thing that needs to be addressed.) Ancient tuner. Disintegrating chord/lyric papers from the 80’s. Rosin. Old strings that I wouldn’t have the patience to change on the fly anyway. Towels. Unused prophylactic. (My life story.) several whistles and nose flutes.
It’s the musical equivalent of a junk drawer.

Thank you for the "I'm not alone" moment. Apart from the unused (or, indeed, used) prophylactic, my bag runneth over. Many cables that are unreliable/dud that 'just need fixing' but, instead, only lengthened my setup time until I found the working ones. A tuner that, if it were a speedometer, would get me a ticket. Never throw away a setlist. A Nobels 4 splitter and DI box for the bigtime gigs that never occurred.

Just as carefully wound and separated cables enjoy writhing mating games if not watched constantly, isn't it strange that putting a bag in the trunk of a car and taking two corners has the same effect as a roadie patiently stacking all the duff, unusable items carefully on the top?

Glock 23 mags, a sleeping cat, 1/2 a pack of cigarettes I thought I lost, 3 Bic lighters, a hard drive from a Thinkpad that got thrown in there by mistake, an empty check book, random screws, 3-4 dead 9v's, random 12ga shells, screwdriver tips I thought I lost and have rebought many times over, a pack of Dean Markley strings someone gave me that I'll never get around to trying, many random feet of cable, random 1/4 and speakon ends.

It's my old Chrome bag back when I lugged a 15" Macbook Pro around for work.

It gets used for shooting when I bother to do competitions, a junk bag I sweep my desk into when someone is coming over, a pause bag in the middle of projects, and mainly a bed for a cat.
