What's in your Music Library?

Using iTunes as a proxy, about 30% are jazz, mostly '60s and '70s hard bop, but a lot of old Louis Armstrong, too, as well as some fusion stuff. I'm going to guess that Miles Davis is most represented. About 20% is Country, mostly '50s and '60s, but a lot of people like Steve Earle, Joe Ely, Gillian Welch, etc. Another 20% is classic rock, blues, and R&B, mostly not albums but songs learned for the bar band repertoire. What remains is a hodgepodge of classical, "ethnic" (mostly African pop), cabaret singers like Bobby Short and Blossom Dearie, gospel (I love me some Pilgrim Travelers), and crazy stuff like the Baka Forest People (pygmy singing!).

I have a big trunk full of CDs. I should go look through it someday.

Mostly classic rock from the 70s - 90s. Most popular artists from those days were The Police, U2, SRV, Boston. Also some Weather Report, Herbie Hancock, Grover Washington and some Classical. Really enjoy baroque music too.

Anyone who overhears more than one song on my playlist usually raises an eyebrow. That's because I have no problem mixing Journey, Slayer, The Cars, Clutch, Black Sabbath, Beth Hart, Mudvayne, Warren Zevon, Maná, Machine Head and Jackson Browne together.

In fact, my favorite playlist is one I made years ago which alternates Journey and Slayer songs. I love singing along to both groups, and it's just so awesome (and almost the same vocal range) to go from singing Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin' right into Disciple. Most fun ever. I love it!

I have 1000s of complete works across vinyl tape cd's and electronic.

The most works by a single artist for me is my original vinyl collection starting when I was a kid in 1975.

Kiss. I bought every album from the 1973 debut Kiss --> 1985's Asylum. So 13 albums plus their 4 solo efforts for a grand total of 17.

The next would be AC/DC with 11 albums. I have everything from High Voltage --> For Those about to Rock. Then it was skip a few here and there.

Oddly I can't remember the last time I purposefully listened to ANY of those albums

My curse is I dig almost everything, I have a pretty big music library, and being kinda old I’ve had time to mass a big collection. Like rings of a tree I can tell what kind of period I was going through in a certain year. Also, for research over the years if I was playing in a band with a certain musical bent, I would immerse myself in that genre.
I still buy CDs every week and even though they are virtually worth pennies on the dollar as soon as I buy them, I don’t care.......music saved me.

I do Amazon Music now. But our Vinyl, CD and cassette collection have about 40% Jazz and most of that is hard bop or out stuff or ECM Nordic Jazz, Lots of Latin and Brazilian music, lots oF Grateful dead bootleg and official, Classical with lots of concertos, quartets and duos, Hendrix, Prince and a sprinkling of Indie bands.

Amazon for me has some obscure labels which I like. Obscure new jjazz and a lot of Mark Dresser, Marilyn Crispell, basically out stuff and new classical. The subscription is worth it for me.

There's one band I wont' even mention the name in case it offends, but I have all their stuff & really enjoyed the Valor Kand years.

I've tried to start conversations on here about deeper cuts or overlooked albums, but they fall flat.
The last time I felt comfortable talking about Rock & Roll with people who "get it" was at the Rainbow Bar & Grill on the fabulous Sunset Strip.

There are a couple of local musicians who like this sort of music, but they're weird. I mean weirder than me. One is posting odd stuff ALL day on FB.
The one woman I know who's into it also thinks she's a witch, so I've kept my distance.

So far I've found discussions about music online turn into a whose opinion is more valid. Folks post their opinions like it's fact.
Don't even get me started about how every Punk fan thinks the Sex Pistols started it, LMAO!

Most of my records are rock. I have a respectable amount of jazz, some blues, but mostly 60's through 2000 rock, hard rock, punk, and metal. My 1000 + CD collection, before I ripped them all and got rid of them, were mostly the same, with a higher concentration of "pop" rock and a sizable amount of rap and industrial; when I was into those styles that format was pretty much all there was.
Sabbath may also be the one band I have the most of on Vinyl... I have everything through mob rules.

I've always had a diverse music collection but I have more Allman Brothers Band (including Gregg Allman & Dickey Betts solo albums) in my collection than any other one band. Second / third most would be Rory Gallagher and gospel artist Mylon LeFevre.

I have classic rock, reggae and blues CDs. Between SRV and Jimmy Vaughn, I probably have a dozen of their CDs.

I have a lot of John Fogerty and CCR. I don’t care what anybody here says, John is a very talented guitarist and songwriter.

I have a lot of classic blues— Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Willie Dixon, etc etc. Honestly, I don’t listen to CDs much anymore. Mostly I listen on Spotify.

I’m a big fan of Steve Earle, Del McCoury, David Lindley, Bob Marley, The Beatles, The Stones, Paul Rodgers, sixties Soul Music, eighties pop, Motown, new wave—I like a lot of different stuff.

I have a varied musical taste. Back in the day I got a look from the cashier at a local Record Store when I purchased James Taylor's Greatest Hits with W.O.W. Wendy O. Williams solo debut..

Tons of R&B and jazz from the '50s and '60s, and a fair amount of big band stuff. A fair amount of '70s R&B. A little bit of '80s R&B.

Tons of '50s and '60s rock and pop-rock, of many different rock sub-genres. Some '70s rock, but not a lot (mostly classic metal, hard rock, punk, and post punk, like Sabbath, Priest, AC/DC, Ramones, Pistols, Joy Division, PiL, Jah Wobble, etc.). Practically no '80s or '90s rock.

'40s–'60s country and folk.

A small but solid chuck of ethnographic music albums from the world over: Europe, Asia, Africa, etc.

A very solid chunk of "exotica" (Yma Sumac, Les Baxter, Martin Denny, etc.).

I also love my handful of sound effects albums.

It's mainly R&B and rock from the '50s and '60s.

I haven't counted, but I'd guess that my largest chunk of LP shelf space taken up by a single artist is taken up by The Rolling Stones.

I don’t tend to accumulate a lot of music by any particular artist, my tastes are pretty broad. I think I have more Metallica than anyone else; I still liked them up until St. Anger, and have all their stuff before that record. I also have almost everything Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers put out, but I don’t think that matches all those Metallica albums.

What a fun and revealing exercise. Some of these numbers shocked me.
In order to make it on my list, I had to have at least 10 of the artists CD's in my collection.
Some are duplicates of the same album. i.e. original release, remixed version, remastered version, Gold remastered version, live bootlegs etc.
