What's On Your Workbench?

And the extra Vox V125 chassis arrived today. I'm going to rework the input the same as my bass amp and use this with it for a bi-amp setup. Just need a power transformer. That's easy as a the PT for a 100 watt Marshall will do.

It's a guitar, it's seen better days, it was not expensive, and it's giving me ideas... And, it looks like this-

20201105_210757.jpg

Edit- a quick assessment during cleaning finds vintage Invader and Hi-A pickups, gold-plated Schaller tuners ("Made in W. Germany") and a Kahler Spyder vibrato.
Also, a non-Westone neck with a penciled date on the end that reads "10-2-91" and an Explorer-type peghead- I thought it could be a Charvel or Jackson neck, but the truss cover screw holes don't match...
There's a Westone neckplate, too, but no serial number info, as that would be on the original peghead. I first thought it was a Phoenix, but i think it may be a Spectrum.

Any Westone experts have more?

(note- the granny-sheet was a dropcloth used while cleaning, and is not on my workbench. ;) )

Having slept on it, my options are-

Shortscale bass- unlikely, the body is really small, although headless is a possibility;

Keep it a guitar, remove the Kahler, make it a hardtail, add a pickup, fix electronics, refin;

Sell it on, or strip it and sell the parts.

Any other ideas?

I would vote for a variant of option 2:

Keep it a guitar, keep the Kahler, add a pickup, fix electronics, refin;

Maybe try to find a correct neck for it?

Fan fret finished and tested at rehearsals. Had a problem with string ground ( had to file anodized surface a bit).
Swamp ash body, maple neck (Warwick DASR truss rod with carbon back strap, roasted birdseye maple fretboard, 34,5"/33" scale, sort of Endurneck/trapezoidal neck profile, Nova headless tuner/bridges, ABM individual string head clamps, MPU sidewinder pickups (ceramic with adjustable polepieces, Q-tuner/Lane Poor inspired), passive vol-vol-tone, Crimson Guitars Finishing oil finish over epoxy grain filling.
Sorry for blurry pics, it's dark at the moment. I'll try to take clearer pics tomorrow.

This is possible- I currently lack a twangy guitar, but the Kahler seems overly complicated for my needs...

And belt sand out the pointy parts.

I actually like them. :)

A quick look finds few, but I may continue looking. I don't mind the neck on it now, although it's quite dirty.

I actually have an old Aria Pro II guitar body that I plan on refinishing, and it has a Kahler rout in it already but is missing the trem. I'm trying to figure out how to swap it to either a Strat type or a Floyd Rose type because first of all, the Kahler trems are really expensive! :thumbsdown:
Since it is getting a swirl finish, I'll probably just fill the rout and re-rout it at some point.

EDIT: I guess I should add, if you have a Kahler trem you are tossing, let me know. :thumbsup:

That thing has a real EVH vibe going.

Matsumoku is great stuff. I have an Electra Phoenix with that same body shape. I think it’s way sexier than the more rounded-off Fenderish style. And the pickups in mine are seriously good. Your Hi-A is intriguing...

It does, right?

The body is surprisingly comfy.
And, the Hi-A appears to be a 70s unit, but I hope I'll know more once I open the guitar up.

I strung it up, because I had the crazy idea that I should see if I like how it plays before I spend money on how it sounds.

The neck feels good on the back, but the string spacing is a little tight for me.This could be rectified somewhat with a new nut and bridge, but that's work and money I don't have atm, and I have no room to store it. Too bad, because the whole guitar is light and well balanced and it has a nice resonant sound unplugged, and the neck feels good, just tight.

I believe I am going to sell it off, or, possibly part it out. I'll keep the Hi-A, and maybe the Invader.
