After some setting up, taking apart, re-setting up, a seemingly broken pickup, communicating with Seymour Duncan peeps and learning the pickup has an odd design and works fine, then a lot of time looking at wiring diagrams and switching options, I have finally decided the future of this guitar.
I think the neck was disagreeable because it's so different from my experience, but, it's a keeper, and this should be a fun one. :D

The neck is definitely a Jackson, has a stamp on the heel to prove it. The flat-ish part I like, but the string spacing is way too tight for me. It's not really all that wide.
And, the original pickups are long gone with this one, but the Hi-A and the Invader are worth more than I paid for it all, so ahead either way. ;)

The lathe is still bolted to my work bench. I present to you, the test subject...

Spalted Ash Snowman turned as a single piece. Some Hobby Lobby gems for coal and a carrot nose (also from Hobby Lobby) and a scarf made from a ribbon. He's not perfect, there's some flaws, but not bad for my first snowman and probably my 3rd actual wood turning project ever. I learned a few things along the way, and the plan is to make some snowmen for Christmas gifts this year so he was a good test run. The gifts will be separate hats of walnut and I may do one hat out of purpleheart for someone who really loves it.

Eventually I'll get back to Lucifer......

On day 14 of covid symptoms, day 3 of being hospitalized for it. It sucks a lot. I think it will be months before I'm back to almost 100%. I'm supposed to go home tomorrow.

Hang in there man! I had it in October. Luckily I stayed out of the hospital. It will get better a little bit every day, but it will take time. Glad you're going home soon! :)

I'm still not 100% and have strange, lingering symptoms. The best way that I can describe the way I feel, is that I feel like a bad Xerox of myself.

Now that I'm all bummed out I almost hate to post this. But I made a couple more snowmen. These two are myrtle wood with walnut hats -

As you can see, still waiting on the glue to dry, it'll turn clear when it's dry so no worries.
I always place the "center" coal for the mouth first and then work out from there. My wife thought he looked surprised and said "I like him like that! He's funny!" So that one stays surprised. :roflmao:

I've got 3 more to turn today so lots of work ahead of me. Then I need to get started on some tree ornaments. :eek:

Currently, I'm discovering that this SBMM Ray 35 with it's fancy roasted maple neck is having MAJOR issues with its truss rod and wood's structural integrity:

The truss can be tapped back in, but that means the anchor is likely moving in the neck. And it's got a WICKED forward bow. I'm currently trying to straighten it out with heat and pressure, but not having much luck. And even if I get it straight, it may be a lost cause in the long run.

This is why I like to make my own basses, honestly. This kind of thing never happens and if it ever did, I could find the guy who made it and give him a talking to.
