What's On Your Workbench?

Somebody else's almost done project body, acquired for $40. Pretty sure the top is Black Korina, but not positive. It is a fairly thick top.
The back is Ash, and not the light stuff. The body is also thick, so I think I may make my first router sled and take some off the back, maybe put on some contours and a belly cut. Obviously, the top is scratched but easily fixed.
It may get the Jackson neck that was on the Westone body I posted here previously, that has a Telecaster neck now.

Yup, that's some nice looking limba and ash!

Stainless steel inserts on Steinberger bridge saddles. I’m filing a small string slot on each insert after I’ve painted the saddles.

First light coats of clear on the body.

I hope the Groundhog days are finally over with this body. Due to numerous different problems with colour and clearcoat problems I'm in finish #3 at the moment. I've had to sand it back to wood twice. Now IF everything goes as planned I'm spraying 2k clear tomorrow, this time without any problems.

Hoping things get back on track for you, sorry to hear about the finish issues.

I've totally run aground on my build, but it's more of just a personal frustration. For those who may or may not recall, I broke a screw off in the wenge section, drilled it out and immediately broke off another one. Have I mentioned that wenge is made of concrete and hatred?
At that point I just kind of walked away and have yet to get back to it. It's been about 3 months now that I haven't even touched it. I need to just get back to it, I feel like the bubble totally burst and I'm having trouble inflating it again.

An odd consequence of starting too many projects is that when you get discouraged with one you can switch to another. Of course that doesn't work if you are discouraged with ALL your projects!

The other significant downside is you never finish anything

I’ve just taken a deep breath after cursing the f***k out of each disaster. At the same time I have restored the original Steinberger bridge and bought screws and other little stuff. Hopefully next week I’m playing this bass.

In response to the inevitable eff-ups inherent to Luthiery, I encourage everyone to develop their own version of The Nine Mightiest Oaths, the more corrosively filthy and vitriolic the better. Extra points for a well honed Pirate accent as the Oaths are uttered. I rarely make it through the Third Oath before I am cackling. I know the feeling though, the Wind out of Your Sails, to use another maritime metaphor. I’ve made a series of small but significant and inexcusable errors on my current build, but managed to recover so far.

Yeah, I do have too many hobbies. Or at least that's why my wife tells me......or something......I dunno.....I'm usually not listening.

Yellow #3. Looks great, bummer I didn’t have more waterslide decals. Patience is not one my strengths but I’m trying, really trying not to rush the final 2000 grit wetsanding and buffing. 2k clearcoat is not cured to final hardness yet so I just have to wait and let it cure at the warmth of boiler room. I have done everything I can, just wet sanding, buffing and putting the parts together left.

One day in elevated heat did the trick. I have vol/vol controls wired at the moment. I have to buy one new EMG vol pot because bridge pickup pot is not working properly. I also need one EMG pot knob. The bass feels a lot lighter than original XM2. That’s what I was looking for.
