Currently the one I want is $41.00.... hopefully it hasn't gone up from last week!! The lumber prices are out of this world!!
I'm voting to stick with the two-tone mint and seafoam green. Art-Deco looks good in those colors, that's why it was used a lot during that era.
It was about $50 a sheet here in the PNW last week. But we do have a lot of trees and lumber mills out here, so maybe shipping costs are helping us. But still, that same sheet was about $15 at the end of 2019. Good thing these businesses got Government bailouts, huh?

Very cool! I always love a good workbench build. I'm low-key jelly over here on my HF bench (maybe not low-key). I've seen that same caster setup before too, seems like it would work pretty good to me!
I spent my whole weekend (yeah, very long days) putting a new engine in the racecar. It's race week, so we'll be back out there this Saturday. So yeah, no wood working for me, aside from a little effort on the lathe to turn my first lidded box -
This piece was part of the "YouTube Cross Channel Challenge" I'm participating in. Although sometimes I wonder why I got myself into this, like I needed more pressure in my life.
So, the back story on this one: The challenge was to find a free piece of wood rather than spending big money on custom hardwoods from expensive sellers. My friend in Topeka sent me this piece of wood and the resin pen blank I made the finial out of. The wood is Ash and it came from the Topeka Zoo elephant pen, it was part of a large chunk of log that the elephants would play with. They occasionally rotate them out after they get roughed up some, so he ended up with a few of the logs and sent me this piece. Hey, it was free wood, right?
And yes, you could smell pachyderm while turning it, no joke.
I mean, it didn't smell like poo or anything, but it did smell like elephants smells.Look for the video this weekend, I gotta finish editing it and get it posted to my woodworking channel before the end of the month so I'm shooting for it to be this week's video. I'll probably do a premiere on Sunday morning so I can chat with "the gang" (there's a really awesome woodturning community out there). I think I've posted the link to that channel before so I'll refrain from linking it again unless someone specifically asks.

Free wood is my favorite kind!! It's funny that it still smelled like elephants!!

I just finished my latest instrument, a solid body steel stringed electric tenor uke. This is the one that got the brass bridge I posted about a couple pages back.
I also just freshly set up a new recording rig with a fancy focusrite interface and an SM57 mic. I feel like I have no excuses now for recording samples at home, other than the fact that I'm a sloppy player who's out of practice because I've been spending the last several years building more than playing!

Next up on the bench is this cheapo MIJ bass that I’m currently sporting piccolo bass strings on. I replaced some mismatched bridge screws.

Oh man, that’s a beauty, sparkle inlays and all. Now THAT is what a Fireglo should look like, that deep red fade. Some of the new ones are approaching that nice now.

I’ve never had them “explode “ but I tightened up the machine head covers too, a couple of them had loose covers.
Note to self...the FunkMasters are pretty light gauge...
Still need some adjustments to the bridge...you know...a pain.
The truss rods have never been adjusted. The neck is still flat as can be.
Oh yeah, wiring jigs are very helpful. Holding all the components in the correct positions to each other makes the wiring faster, easier, and neater. Here's the wiring jig I made up for my AMB-2 Scroll Basses. It holds the aluminum control plate and the pickup in their correct positions. I also made a place on the jig to do left hand harnesses.
Then I test the complete harness using a tuning fork over the pickup, before it gets mounted into the body.
