It's off the bench now, but @StreetScenes painted the body for this for @rogerbmiller and the results are awesome...

Deep, rich pearl white may be my absolute favorite finish.

Not sure what that's all about. Every time I head down for the first time of the day, she wants to be put up there, checks everything out, then she's good till the next day. And it's just that bench.

I've learned that when my dog does that, either a dead bird has previously graced the area, or a rat's erm... package has been raked over it... :vomit:

Well, it's time for another project. This time it will be a trio of Telecasters. One for me, one for my brother and one for my dad. (dad doesn't know about this. :) ) The plan is for two of them to be tributes guitars to Buck Owens and Don Rich. One gold and the other silver metal flake. The finish for my dad's is still up in the air. Right now I'm planning for a classic butterscotch, but it may get the grand daddy red, silver and blue flag treatment. :D

I promise, the next build from me will be a bass. ;)

In the car world, we call them "shop inspectors". I'd wager she's letting you know if you're doing a good job or not. Be worried when she shows no interest, you've done something wrong. ;) :thumbsup:

Thanks, guys. My bench is definitely the most valuable tool that I have, hands down. I built it during the spring/summer of 2013. The bench plans, leg vise and tail vise (which I don't often use) are made by Benchcrafted. Their hardware is made to last multiple lifetimes, that's for sure. :)

I've since added the pattern vise for holding guitars. Having multiple options to securely hold your work at the correct height makes things so much easier and much less tiring. If anything happened to my workshop, it's the first tool that I'd rebuild/replace. :thumbsup:

Here are some pictures of the bench right after I finished building it. It's so unblemished! :roflmao:

I have an inspector in my shop too. I think I've posted photos in here before. She visits the shop pretty much every time I'm in there, just sits off to the side and watches, as if she has some fundamental need to try to understand what I'm doing.

Nah, ya gotta use what you have and what works for you. I use a lot of hand tools, so the need for the extra mass is essential. It transfers the action directly into the work instead of being wasted on wobbling, bouncing and moving around in general.

That's why I built mass into mine. And bolted it on 2 sides to the structure :)
It ain't moving.
I'm actually pretty proud of my little shop. It started as a bare structure.
The bench is ,90 percent roadside scrap wood.
I'm less skilled with the hand tools, but aspire to gain these skills in time.
