What's On Your Workbench?

M4 doesn't look too bad, assuming that is a 3/4" knob. Also, M4 uses a 2mm hex wrench instead of a 1.5mm, which is cool.
Yep, 3/4".
6-32 is just a hair smaller than 4mm, but I couldn't find 6-32 grub screws.
4mm isn't horrible, but I'd still prefer the 3mm.

View attachment 4659707 Normally I have loads of space.
But it was raining so I had to move into the garage.
It’s a little crowded in there.
I knew a guy who said he could park his and his wives cars in his garage. I couldn’t comprehend that kind of crazy talk. View attachment 4659706
I was under the impression that you pump out those instruments with basically a few hand tools and do it all on a stool.
Kinda made me feel bad about myself.

I don't know if I've ever posted this, but here is my little workspace -

It's a bit of a mess right now, but honestly it's a bit of a mess everyday. It is a corner of our garage, roughly 12'x12' and in that space I have my work bench, the ShopSmith (which acts as my table saw, drill press, belt sander, disk sander and horizontal boring machine and can be an additional workbench if needed), a 6" jointer and my ShopSmith band saw on a power station. Everything under the counter is general garage storage and everything on the upper shelves is also general garage storage. But yeah, there it is, that's my workshop, all 144 square feet of it!

For anyone making their own wooden knobs with set screws; what size/type set screw are you using?

Length/diameter/thread pitch?

I’m a caveman. Good ol SAE 6-32x3/4” maybe. I could be wrong on the length. Some threads right in the wood with CA some with a Heli-coil type insert. Just depends.

Edit: obviously I was elsewhere mentally when I typed that. The set screws couldn’t be 3/4” on a 3/4” diameter knob. They’re 1/4” long maybe? 3/16”? Somewhere in there.

I'd love to make a paded gig bag, but my wife won't let me touch any of her sewing machines

I hand sewed one padded gig-bag for a Kubicki Ex-Factor. My seamstress aunt taught me how to sew as a teen after I bought my first 10-speed racing bicycle equipped with 'sew-ups'. I learned how to repair them when they flatted prematurely. I enjoy sewing - it's very relaxing.

So my bench has a bunch of "stuff" on it right now. My orders have all started arriving, so it's inventory time! -

So there's this new set of dragon rasps -

I'm stupidly excited about these to be honest. :D I've been wanting a set for a long time. These are cheap Amazon items, but I think it'll be a great entry point. There's a 10", 8", 6" and a silly little 4" that I'm sure later I'll be all "Man, this little guy is awesome!" :roflmao:

Then I also got a new set of drill bits. This was one of those deals where I literally needed a $0.40 item at the hardware store so I ended up buying those to make it worth running my bank card. Driver carries no cash.
And my new Amana router bit next to them -

It's pretty small, I have concerns. We shall see.

Oh, I picked up this little shoulder plane a couple weeks ago. It's cute, but I'm sure it's gonna come in pretty handy when the time comes -

Then there's my brand new band saw blade, to replace the one I snapped in half somehow. Sometimes hard woods are ... hard. This is a Timberwolf 3TPI 1/2" blade for my ShopSmith band saw -

I can't seem to find a 72" long 5/8" blade, so the 1/2" has to do. But I loved the last one, may it rest in pieces.

And then! My template set arrived!

I'm stoked about this. I went ahead and ordered the full set, because some of this stuff will come in handy later on other projects. Overall initial reaction is, I'm pretty happy with this set. The quality is nice, it looks good.

And lastly, my box of veneer waiting on me to peek at it -

Lot of stuff! I'm excited!

@TerribleTim68 I bought those same dragon rasps off Amazon. They worked great for me, I used them on many parts of the WBO bass. Good tools for the money. You're right about the 4" one. You're not building a neck-thru this time, but it was helpful for carving on the heel in the tight spots between the bouts of the body - I'm sure it'll come in handy
That is exactly what I wanted to hear!
Oh, and I actually am building a neck-thru on this Tele. It was one of the customer's requests. So yeah, that little 4" is gonna see some action. :smug:
Nearly there with this batch...

Bridges are glued on and tuners are in, I'm fitting the saddles and nuts this morning, so my workbench is covered in that chaos right now.
