What's the most sturdy, reliable bass?

Looks like a detuner of some sort.
I'd have to go with a P-bass or Jazz bass here. For amps, I'd have to say Peavey. You would be safe with both of these brands just based on the numbers of old ones still working!

Ibanez Roadstar (anything before 1988) will outlast most human beings I am sure. I own an 84 and an 85 that have been through hell and back and haven't missed a beat.
Kramer 650b Artist Series.
Its indestructable. The neck is aircraft-grade forged aluminum and the body is made of some of the heaviest woods imaginable. I can drop it on stage and it won't even chip the finish. The thing has been around for 16 years with no special treatment and still works.

This has been around for 33 years, played every weekend and has a wooden neck. Rock on.
