What's wrong with the Fender Dimension Basses?

I kinda like these. It may be because I'm not a huge fan of the traditional Fender basses (the original Performer is still my favorite Fender). I also think that, in general, Fender doesn't really do active very well: Their pre-amps seem to have a sterile, shrill tone to me. But these Dimension basses really seem to play well and sound good to me, even the active ones.
Mh... don’t fully agree ... the preamp in my Am. Elite P bass is a good one

It was the one with the triplebucker (the Modern Player Dimension?). The switch instead of a tone knob threw me off initially but more than anything, the bass had so much buzzing on the neck definitely in need of a set up. I think between the two issues and the fact that my impression was it felt a little less sturdily build than other MIM made me put it back on the wall.

the tone of the modern player dimension with the triplebucker is what got my attention. the one i first tried had me playing and playing it - i liked it so much we went back for me to try it some more, but the only one they had at our GC had been really bashed up. and after posting about it here, i finally got one a year after i first tried it. an excellent bass with great build quality and a nice finish, not to mention that sound that first got my attention. YMMV.

btw, the factory setup is rarely good for me on any stringed instrument i've tried at any store, but to me that's a given. my husband set up my dimension after it got here, and it's a gem.

The modern player version is not very good IMO.

Still in the left hand menu navbar:

But the link just takes you to the whole lineup- and no Dims there.

The main Dimension page still there, but the shop links just go to the whole lineup with no Dimensions. The future is dim for Dims.

Loving my passive American HH. Shame to see them die, but there are still plenty in the wild.
