What's wrong with this picture? (Literally)

I switched out the pickguards on two pickguards. When I went to play one of them, I noticed that the tone control doesn't do anything to the sound. The red wire in the photo that is going up in the air is not connected to anything, should it be?

Edit: I found where I need to reattach the wire, but I have nothing to reattach it with =(

The wire should definitely be connected to something, but your photo is so small, dark, and blurry that I can't tell what the deal is.

It shouldn't. I have SD wiring diagrams for a Jazz Bass, a P Bass, a T-Bird, and a Stingray should I ever need to repair my basses.

What model DiMarzio by the way? I put one in my franken P, it sounds HUGE now.

It looks like it's the hot wire to the tone control. Solder it to the first lug of the volume pot (where your pickup's hot wire attaches.)
