Toyed with naming my uke Eddie (because of Eddie Vedder's ukulele album), but named it Polly instead because that song was stuck in my head.

I have given a name to just a couple of...ahem...quite a few basses.
My Atkinson early '70s reproduction is named Layla. I tried Farrah but that didn't fit; that was late '70s.
My first bass, sold to a friend, was originally La Morenita (Little Dark One) but now by mutual agreement is known as Black Beauty.

I only named my white Fender Jazz Bass "The Diamond" short for Diamond In The Rough, reason why is there's a story of how I obtained it.
When I was 19, I was vacationing down in Florida, we were set to drive back up to New York when our trip was delayed due to hurricane Irene. After being stuck in the house for a few days, my grandpa and I decided to go to a local flea market, just to get out of the house. We didn't have any intention on buying anything, besides there wasn't really anything interesting anyways except some junk and nick nacks, we turn a corner and from far away we see this guitar looking lamp. As we got a few steps closer I said "Grandpa, that's a Fender.". Obviously I got excited and we walked towards it. The guy saw me eye it and asked me "Oh you like that bass?" I nodded my head and he said "you know it's a lefty". I raised my hand and my grandpa pointed saying at the same time, "I'm/ He's a lefty". I asked if I could try it out and immediately he gave me the bass. At the end of the day we pooled our money together and bought it for $350.
