The very 1st bass I purchased with my own hard earned money while still in high school was just like this Kramer Stagemaster Standard, but mine was trans blue. It's basically a P bass. Vol/Tone, Split P pickup. I'd love to see some of your favorite non Fender Precision basses. Let's say the parameters are: Must have a single P pickup with vol/tone, but not a fender. Go!

I mention this one, all the time here. It is the one I reach for almost as often as my RGB300.

It's my Epiphone Accu-Bass. I know for a fact that "experts" (at listening with their eyes) Rarely could tell that Epiphone from my '79 P-Bass, when in a mix.

Rescued. Replaced my 'ol stolen Carvin LB50 anchor.
Layed under a bed (sans case) in Vale Colorado for 10 years. Slightly abused. Removed a bucket of old under-the-bed DNA (yuck), gutted it, foiled it, put the passive A5 EMG in it and the chicken heads. Shimmed the neck with a coupla business cards. Graphtech rollers. Labella medium flats, sounds great! Old school scrunchy dampener stolen from my daughter's vast collection. Width is 1.75 at the nut. I gigged it 3X a week for years.

Nevertheless, like I said that neck pickup soloed is my favourite non-Fender PJ tone among the basses I own.

I like this bass. None of the arguments about which half of the pickup gets the prime real estate. This bass has two modes - one of them is neck pickup only; it sounds like a good P, except that all the strings have the same timbre. And the volume control is wired like a P, not a VVT with two reversed volume controls.
